Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka recently opened up on the Virat Kohli-Naveen ul Haq verbal spat during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Notably, Kohli and Naveen had a heated exchange during Match 43 of the tournament between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and LSG in Lucknow.

Following the incident, Kohli also had an altercation with the LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir at the end of the game. In the aftermath of the incident, the trio were fined heavily by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Recently, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka opened up on the incident and revealed that he had extended his support to Naveen after the incident.

“That situation took place during a game. So I will not comment on whether it was right or wrong. It is easy to be judgmental but it is not for us to judge. I just told Naveen that if you need any support or you are feeling insecure, we are there to support you,” Goenka said on the TRS Podcast.

Further speaking ahead, Goenka also mentioned how he motivated the Afghanistan seamer to give a strong reply with his performance.

Kohli and Naveen sorted out their differences during World Cup

“But it is not about showing that you have the spirit to fight. If I was in your position, I would have said – You said this to me. Now I will bowl in such a manner that I will take all of your team’s wickets,” he added.

After the big controversy, Naveen and Kohli sorted out their differences during the ODI World Cup 2023 match between India and Afghanistan in Delhi. The Afghanistan bowler was welcomed with ‘Kohli-Kohli!’ chants when he walked out to bat and also during his bowling spells. However, Kohli asked the crowd to not go after the youngster and gave him a warm hug to bring the controversy to an end.
