Teenage star Vaibhav Suryavanshi revealed his excitement about learning under Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid. Suryavanshi, at the age of 13, became the youngest player to be sold in IPL history. Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals engaged in a bidding war to get the services of the Bihar-born teen player. Eventually, it was the Royals who managed to buy Suryavanshi for a whopping price of Rs 1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Suryavanshi was in awe of Dravid for his contribution to Indian cricket and was eager to learn from him.

“It feels great, first of all I will get to play IPL. I am happy about the fact that I will get to play under Rahul sir. I am happy about that the most as he is a really big player, he has a lot of experience. He has also coached India and has played for the country, so I am excited,” Vaibhav told India Today exclusively.

Vaibhav is the first player who is younger than the IPL itself to be bought in the auction. He will get to work with one of the finest minds of Indian cricket, Rahul Dravid, who returned to the Rajasthan Royals as their head coach.

What Dravid said about Suryavanshi

Dravid earlier said that the franchise could offer the 13-year-old the ideal environment to develop his talent during his upcoming stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“I think he’s (Suryavanshi) got some really good skills, so we thought it might be a good environment for him to grow in. Vaibhav just came to our trials and we were really happy with what he saw,” said Dravid in an IPL video.

However, the teen sensation is not thinking much about IPL and is focussing on the current domestic tournaments.

“I don’t play for records, I just keep working hard.. the results will follow. The preperations are going on and when IPL will start, then I will see what I have to do. For now, the focus is on present phase like domestic tournaments,” Suryavanshi added.

The 13-year-old was also a star performer for India in the Under-19 Asia Cup amd played bllistering knocks while opening.
