Aero India will demonstrate the jump of IAF towards self -sufficiency and inspire the youth

Bengaluru: Aero India, which began in 1996 with 12 countries, 100 foreign and 50 Indian companies, and 25,000-30,000 visitors, this year is in its 15th edition and its growth story-it is now Asia’s largest aircraft Is incomplete without Indian Air Force (IAF). Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, IAF Training Command Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) Aerial station station (AFS) Yehlaka Has been hosting Aero India since its inception, in a special interview by Chethan Kumar of Toy, talked about the preparation of the show, what is the meaning of What the Show, and more.
AFS Yalehanka Aero India has been hosted since its inception. How has the infrastructure developed in the last few years?
AFS has continuously extended its infrastructure to support the expansion scale of Aero India. The airbase has upgraded its runways, taxis and apron areas, with a wide range of aircraft, from fighter jets to large transport aircraft.
The site has observed a significant increase in the exhibition location, which has zones dedicated to static displays, chalets, and commercial pavilions, which ensure a spontaneous experience for participants and visitors. We have also integrated advanced air traffic control system, safety measures and monitoring capabilities to manage high amounts of aircraft movements during the event.
Facilities such as better access roads, increased visitor facilities and expanded media centers have been developed to support the increasing number of exhibitors, officers and attendees. These enrichrs have ensured that the Air Force Station continues to provide a world -class platform for Yelhanka Aero India, strengthening its position as a major aerospace and defense exhibition.
■ In your view, how does Aero India contribute to strengthening India’s defense capabilities and promoting international cooperation in the aerospace sector?
Aero India has already created a place for itself as a major aerospace exhibition globally, with a major aerospace exhibition with 14 successful versions held in Bengaluru since 1996. The previous version included over 250 participation, including 201 mouses, major announcements, product launch and technology transfer, which was priced more than Rs 75,000 crore. The aim of the 2025 version is to overcome these achievements, and promises to be bigger in scope and grandeur.
The event will provide a platform for the discovery of a new path in the global value chain to accelerate partnership and indigenization process between foreign and Indian firms. Several bilateral meetings are planned at the level of Defense Minister, Minister of State (Defense), Defense Employees and Secretary level, which are on the occasion of this event. This will be on the defense and aerospace relations with the countries focusing on this, which is searching for a new route to take the partnership to the next level.
The CEO’s round-table is expected to provide a favorable platform to the foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEM) for manufacturing in India. Global CEO, CMD of Domestic PSU and Premier Private Defense and Aerospace Manufacturing companies from India will participate in the event.
■ What steps are you taking to ensure operational readiness and safety during the event?
Visitors, exhibitors and representatives may expect a significant experience. With major infrastructure upgrades and better features, this version promises to be much larger, smooth and more visible than ever.
Since air performance and aircraft movements are a major attraction, the IAF in coordination with AAI and HAL has structured a dedicated airspace management scheme to ensure smooth air performance. Temporary flight restrictions around Yelhanka have been imposed to maintain security by allowing scheduled demonstrations. There are also plans to fill strategic parking and fuel for aircraft participating from domestic and international defense forces.
Keeping in mind the visibility of the event, we are working closely Home ministryBangalore Police, CISF, and intelligence agencies to deploy a multi -level security system ensure increased safety protocols and rapid access controls, ensure a safe and trouble -free experience. This involves the establishment of an operational command and control center to coordinate real -time reactions for any safety concerns, 24/7 dedicated screening zones, accelerated and dedicated to CCTV networks, visitors and VIPs for status awareness, at the CCTV network, visitors, exhibitions and VIPs. To ensure trouble free entry. We have a dedicated disaster management committee and fire security committees to meet emerging conditions.
■ Can you highlight any new technology, aircraft, or defense systems that will be painted in this year’s Aero India, and how they reflect efforts to modernize the Air Force?
India’s air war capabilities have been designed for significant progress in the next decade, which is powered by indigenous production, technical modernization and global cooperation. IAF is ‘Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar- powerful, powerful, and self-reliant’, which highlights its commitment to protect, modernize and become self-sufficient of India’s airspace.
So we are looking at the modernization of our fleet with new aircraft and upgrade in existing platforms, more and more use of AI and automation in combat operations, including unmanned air systems, with better missile systems and monitoring capabilities Strong global partnership technology transfer and innovation to increase air defense networks and facilitate.
While unmanned systems have played an important role in previous versions, the focus of this year can increase to AI-managed solutions, automation and increased operating capabilities. ■ Aero India is known for its stunning wind performance. How is these demonstrations preparation, and what special attractions can the public expect this year?
Aero India always brings a great performance of amazing wind performance and this year is no exception. This year, we can expect to see a diverse category of planes of both Indians and foreign performing exciting aerobatic maneuvers. The general public, especially aviation enthusiasts, get an incredible opportunity to first look at some of the most advanced military and civil aircraft in action. Flying displays, often facilitating aerobatic maneuvers by Indian Air Force and other participating countries, are a major attraction and attract large crowds.
For many people, one time a lifetime experience to see such advanced techniques in speed. In addition to enthusiasm, the event also provides citizens to learn more about aerospace and defense technologies. ■ Aero India offers a platform for youth engagement. How does IAF sees it to encourage the next generation to pursue a career in aviation and defense?
Yes, we are focusing on creating an inspirational experience for young students participating in Aero India. We believe that in such moments young minds have the power to ignite the spark of curiosity and ambition, and we are committed to ensure that they leave with a sense of surprise, possibility and inspiration.
We will also host a career guidance sessions that students are about showing immense opportunities in the field. Whether they are ready to fly, designing, construction, or innovation, we want them to know that they have a place in this industry.
The world of aerospace is huge and full of opportunities, and we want these students to understand that the sky is not limit – this is just the beginning. Aero India is more than just an exhibition; It is a platform for young people to imagine the future and feel that they can be to shape it. We hope to inspire them to be fearless, work hard, and never stop believing in their ability.
Security is a significant concern in such a high-profile event. Can you share how IAF works with other agencies to ensure the safety of Aero India?
As I said in response to your earlier question, we are working closely with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bangalore Police, CISF, and intelligence agencies to deploy a multi -level security system, in which increased security protocols and Rapid access control involves, ensuring a safe and trouble -free experience. ■ What do you imagine for the future of Aero India in the coming years? Are there any new elements or changes that the attendees can see further in future versions?
Aero India is not just an aircraft – it is a launchpad for the future of aerospace and defense. In the coming years, we imagine it to develop in a global powerhouse, where state-of-the-art technologies, game-changing cooperation, and Next-Jean Innovation Center takes stage.
We also expect AI-operated combat system, autonomous drones and future aviation concepts to redefine air superiority. With India’s rapid progress in defense manufacturing and space exploration, Aero India will demonstrate not only aircraft but the future of air war, stability in aviation, and space-defense integration. The attendees are ready for a boulder, more immersive experience-start-up showcase and deep-grated sessions with global defense leaders. Aero India will remain the final convergence of visionary, strategists and innovators who shape the future of aerospace.
