Veteran actor Deb Mukherjee, the father of filmmaker Ayan Mukerji, passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 83. He had been unwell and was hospitalized, where he breathed his last at 9:30 am. His funeral is scheduled for 4 pm today at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai.
Deb Mukherjee was known for his roles in films like ‘Abhinetri’ and ‘Ek Baar Muskurado.’. He hailed from the illustrious Mukherjee-Samarth family, being the father of director Ayan Mukerji and father-in-law of filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker. His familial connections extended to actresses Kajol and Rani Mukerji, making him an integral part of Bollywood’s close-knit community.
Upon hearing the news of his demise, several Bollywood celebrities arrived at Ayan Mukerji’s residence to pay their last respects. Actress Kajol, Deb Mukherjee’s niece, was among the first to arrive. She was seen supporting her mother, the legendary actress Tanuja, as they entered the premises.
Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan, accompanied by her daughter Shweta Bachchan, also visited the Mukerji residence. Jaya Bachchan looked visibly saddened as she hugged Kajol, sharing a moment of grief.
Close friends of Ayan Mukerji, actors Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, cut short their trip to Alibaug to be by their friend’s side. The couple was vacationing in Alibaug to celebrate Alia’s 32nd birthday but returned to Mumbai upon learning about Deb Mukherjee’s passing. They were seen arriving at the Mukerji residence to offer their condolences.
Filmmaker Karan Johar was also spotted entering Ayan Mukerji’s home to pay his respects. Other notable people, including veteran actor Kiran Kumar and singer Shaan, accompanied by his wife, were present to offer their condolences.
