It`s where my roots lie: Rohman Shawl

“Kashmir has always been more than just a place for me—it’s where my roots lie, even though I was raised in Nainital. Every visit back feels like a quiet reunion with my own soul,” said Rohman Shawl, reflecting on his connection with the valley in light of the recent terror attack in Kashmir.

Rohman shot for his debut Tamil film Amaran in the valley. Talking about his experience, he said, “During our recent shoot, I felt nothing but warmth, love, and an overwhelming sense of belonging—not just from the people, but from the land itself. That’s why what happened last night is so deeply heartbreaking.”

Shawl condemned the attack in the valley while also stressing how the people of Kashmir will rise from this devastating incident. “The tourists who were attacked came seeking beauty, peace, and connection—and instead, they met with something tragic and undeserved. It’s a loss we all carry, not just as Kashmiris, but as human beings. My heart is with their families, and with everyone in the valley. Because even in its silence today, I know Kashmir will rise again—grieving, yes, but never broken,” he added.
