Bengali actor Arjun Chakraborty on making Hindi TV debut with Noyontara

Arjun Chakraborty, a familiar face in the Bengali entertainment industry, now steps into the Hindi television space with the upcoming show, Noyontara. He shares that when the show’s writer Shahana Dutta approached him, he had no reason to decline. “I’ve been working for a long time in the Bengali industry. I was always excited by acting. I had never focused specifically on TV shows or feature films. I have done a bit of everything,” says the actor. While he continues to improve his language skills every day, he says he was selected because his “Hindi is fairly good.”

Although new to the Hindi medium, Chakraborty walks in with curiosity and conviction that the show will open doors to other opportunities. “I didn’t want to overanalyse or do any extensive digging on anything. I decided to go with the flow. I always knew Hindi shoots were a big thing because Bengalis love watching Hindi shows. They have a wide appeal considering we have a huge Indian diaspora all over the globe,” he shares.

Asked whether he notices a difference between the two industries, he says, “This industry is bigger, which is natural because we are comparatively a smaller industry. Here, they take a little more time to get things rolling. Probably because they are insistent on [perfection], which is why it takes time.” Although the show was announced last year, it will finally drop on June 9.

Chakraborty knows the fate of any daily soap depends on TRPs, and storylines often go through changes, but he remains unperturbed. “We’re all trying to make a good show. Unlike films where they shoot for 30 to 50 days, here if the show is successful, it goes on for a year or more. Maybe that is why there is this pressure. Noyontara will be telecast for seven days, which is immense pressure on every member of the unit. But then that is the challenge. If it was easy, then anyone would do it. So those numbers are nothing to complain about,” he shares.
