Haridwar stampede: In a tragic incident, at least six people lost their lives and 28 others were injured after a stampede during a rush of pilgrims along a ladder route to the holy pilgrimage site of Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand on Sunday.
The incident occurred at around 9 am when the rumor of an electric shock on the stairs was spread among the huge crowd of devotees, which were collected to obey the deity, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Haridwar, Pramendra Singh Dobal, told the news agency. PTI,
Double further stated that police and state disaster response forces (SDRF) teams were immediately taken to the spot, and the rescue attempts continued for hours.
Who are the victims?
According to officials, those killed in the tragic incident include people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand and people between 12 and 60 years of age.
The authorities have not yet specified as Aarsh (12), Shakal Dev (18), Vicky (18), Vipin (18), Vikkil and Shanti – both have not been specified.
Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey told reporters quoting the news agency as saying, “The priority so far is the rapid recovery of the injured in the stampede.”
Tragedy
As the ambulances flowed outside the temple with sirens, many injured persons were lying at the entrance.
The ‘Chunis’ brought by the devotees offered to the Goddess is scattered with stairs that lead to the hill temple in Haridwar. The shoe scores, also, were left at the entrance.
In a video, a policeman was shown running towards an ambulance with a child injured in his arms. Later, an injured devotee was interrogating his relatives, writing in pain inside an ambulance who separated in the stampede chaos.
One of the video shows a large -scale crowd trapped between barricades at one point on the ladder, with no place to carry many children and panting for breath. Devotees were also asked to help in all directions as a crowd. While some managed to climb the wall with a ladder, others also tried to do so, to make way for others.
Magistrate inquiry ordered
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered under the leading circumstances for the stampede.
District Magistrate Mayur Dixit said that additional District Magistrate of Haridwar has been tasked to investigate the incident and a report has been submitted within 15 days, which is recommending to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.

Condolence in
President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party lines led the loss of life in the tragic incident.
Murmu said in a post in Hindi, “The news of the death of many devotees in a stampede accident on the way to the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar is deep.
PM Modi also faced X to express condolences to the victims in the stampede. The PM said, “A stampede on the route of Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand caused deep sadness to life. There is sensation to those who lose their loved ones. The injured may soon recover. The local administration is helping the affected people,” the PM said.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed grief over the incident.
“The news of a stampede at Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar is extremely sad. SDRF, local police and other rescue teams are on the site and are engaged in relief and rescue operation. I am in constant contact with the local administration and monitor the situation. I pray to Mata Rani for the good of all the devotees.”
Dhami later visited the district hospital in Haridwar, where most of the injured were admitted and went to bed from bed and asked him about their good.
Announced pre–graitia
Chief Minister Dhami announced a pre-Rs 2 lakh pre-consent for one in the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 every for injuries.
Additionally, Mahant Ravindra Puri, president of Mansa Devi Temple Trust, announced that the temple trust would provide Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to the injured.
Further, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased from Uttar Pradesh.
According to officials, four people killed in the incident are from Uttar Pradesh.
In a post on X, CM Yogi said, “The news of a tragic accident on Shri Mansa Devi Temple Road in Haridwar, resulting in the devotees who passed away, are very painful and heartbreaking. My condolences are with sad families.”
What caused by stampede?
Rumors of an electric stream where the stairs started nervousness among the people, causing a stampede, Haridwar SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal.
Mahendra Pratap Singh, an eyewitness, who saw a stampede at a short distance from a roof, told the news agency that the additional mob caused the tragic incident.
“The additional crowd is the only factor,” he said.
An injured devotee, Nirmala, who was admitted to a government hospital, told PTI that the stampede occurred as a wholesale of the people and quickly turned upwards.
He told his bed in the hospital, “People coming back from the temple pushed them upwards and then people started falling on each other. Nothing could be seen due to the crowd. I kept lying down.”
Local people said that if the administration was a little cautious, the accident could be avoided, given the possibility of a large crowd coming to the Mansa Devi temple.
Since it was only a few days after the Kanwar Yatra and it was Sunday, millions of people were in Haridwar, which is a major pilgrimage place.
Local people said that most of these devotees had reached the Mansa Devi temple to visit. He said that the crowd in the temple was continuously increasing but the administration was unaware of it.
Some eyewitnesses said that the power meter installed on the route had a short circuit and a spark, and the fear spread among the people, causing stampede.
One-way system needs one
Following this incident, SSP Dobal announced that a level system would be implemented immediately to manage the crowd and prevent further events.
He said, “We have spoken with the temple administration and the trust, and we have concluded that it is absolutely necessary to implement the one-way system. The one-way system will be implemented with immediate effect,” he told the news agency. ANI,
He said that a nodal officer has been appointed to improve security, and a case has been registered regarding the incident.
Mansa Devi Temple
The Mansa Devi Temple is located on the Sea level, 1770 feet above the Sea level, which is the most southern mountain range in the Himalayas.
It can be reached through three routes. The first route is by road, which two-wheelers and cars use to go near the temple, while the second route is through a ropeway.
The third route is a trek route near Har Ki Pauri, which is also known as the ladder path. This route is very narrow and reaches the temple complex directly. There are a trench and dense shrubs on one side of this path.
