Supreme Court recently Order to remove all stray dogs There has been a hot public debate from Delhi-NCR roads within six to eight weeks. During the hearing in rising dog-kissing incidents, au Motu was issued during the hearing, applied to the ruling Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, and covers both sterilized and unwanted animals.
Justice JB Pardwala and R. Mahadevan’s bench called the situation “extremely serious” and announced: “infants and young children should not fall at any cost, which lead to rabies to dog bite.”
The order instructs civic bodies to build shelter capacity for at least 5,000 dogs as an immediate step, hire employees for sterilization and vaccination, establish CCTVs in shelters, create a helpline for cutting reports, and consider a dedicated task force. No dog caught under this drive is to be returned to the streets, and any obstructs the proceedings in this process.
Why animal rights group are calling orders ‘cruel’ and ‘illegal’
Animal rights groups and activists argue that the order violates the Animal Birth Control (ABC) rules, 2023, which requires that sterilized and vaccinated dogs be issued back to their original places, a structure that is supported since the 2013 version of the rules and by the earlier Supreme Court orders. They argue that the actual problem is old and is of poor implementation of sterilization programs, not themselves.
PETA India called the ruling “impractical” and “irrational”, saying that the estimated 1 million stray dogs of Delhi create large -scale shelters “simply impossible” and risk “very poor” situations. Activists have also warned of trauma, starvation and outbreak of disease if a large number of dogs are limited.
To add political weight, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi The blanket has been called “cruel” and “steps back to human, science-supported policy for decades”, saying that public safety and animal welfare “go hand in hand” and “there is no problem of eradicating soundless souls.”
SC’s instruction to remove all stray dogs from Delhi-NCR has been one step behind the human, science-supported policy for decades. These sound-related souls are not “problems”.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that there is a “better way” to deal with the situation, arguing that a large number of stray dogs are not sufficient to store.
Taking all stray dogs of the city to shelters within a few weeks is going to result in their horrific inhuman treatment. Even enough shelters are not present to take them. It is subject to sick treatment and cruelty to animals in urban environment.

Celebrity Voice has increased pushbacks. Janhvi Kapoor And Varun Dhawan shared a similar template condemning the step. Taking their Instagram stories, Janhvi and Varun shared, “But these are not just ‘stray dogs’. They are those who wait outside your tea stall for a biscuit. They are silent night guard for shopkeepers. They are children when children return from school. They are a cold in a cold, unwanted cities.”
Singer Chinmai Sripada called it a “death sentence” and associated it with cultural symbolism, given that the dog is the vehicle of Lord Kala Bhairav. He also warned that large -scale removal would be left to pet dogs, especially the indies, which are already in crowded shelters.
Filmmaker Siddharth Anand called it a “death warrant” and urged the petitions to call it “genocide of stray dogs”. Comedian Veer Das shared pictures of his adopted Indies, which encourage NGOs adopt and donate. “As the appeal is filed in the court and procedures take their time, it is important for our humanity to kick immediately. Please add your share, big or shorten, it adds all,” they have written on X.
If you are a resident of Delhi. Can I persuade you to adopt an indie on the streets, more than one? They are extremely healthy, low maintenance, and will give you more love affection and gratitude, as much as you can imagine anytime. From sterilization drive to feeding zone: option on table
The protesters proposed to increase the ABC program, better coordination between civil bodies, and partnership with NGOs with sterilization and vaccination drives. They recommend regulated feeding zones to reduce human -push struggle, public awareness campaign to promote safe co -existence, and strict punishment for illegal reproduction and abandonment.
Encouraging adoption, especially Indy Dogs, is another priority, as well as adopting global best practices where continuous sterilization and vaccination have rapidly reduced rabies without large -scale kaming or imprisonment.
Why many residents say that this step is long
Support for the Supreme Court order has so far come from general residents. Many people see it as a longer public safety measure than a long time, arguing that the dogs are left back after sterilization-by arguing that aggressive packs and growing bite.
Some parents have expressed apprehension for the safety of their young children, writing a social media user: “Nobody should risk the life of their three-year-old child because someone is kind about stray dogs somewhere. It is so easy.” Other including self-ensured dog owners, they say they “love dogs” but believe that the stray danger has become unbearable, especially during night shifts or during the morning walk.
Many people have challenged the workers to adopt dogs themselves, if they oppose the order, with reading a post: “Dear stray dog lovers, if you are upset with the decision of SC to get out of the road, please take something in your homes … Feeding stale chapatis on the road does not make you a animal worker.” Supporters echoed the court’s argument that it is “absurd” to return dogs to public places when objective attacks are to be stopped.
Shelter, Staff, CCTV: What does SC want to do in eight weeks
In Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, Civic Bodies has to start a large -scale pickup of all stars for less than two months and transfer them to shelters. They should create initial capacity for 5,000 dogs, with the possibility of expansion, given the scale of the population. Veterinary and Assistant Employees are part of the court’s checklist is to hire veterinary and assistant employees, vaccinating and sterilizing dogs, establishing CCTVs for monitoring, and running a helpline for cutting events.
Coordination in municipalities will be necessary to avoid repetition or gap, and regular updates will be required to review the court. Any obstruction can invite contempt proceedings.
In the coming weeks, petitions, protests, adoption drives, and donation campaign with activists, celebrities and political voices will run parallel to officials to complete the court deadline.
