Washington DC: Diwali 2025 lit up homes across India and this year, leaders from across the world joined the celebrations and sent greetings, highlighting the festival’s message of triumph and hope.
US President Donald Trump wished Americans a happy Diwali and reminded the festival of “the victory of light over darkness”. He urged people to gather with family and friends, draw strength from hope and embrace renewal.
He said as if millions of people were burning lamps (earthen lamps) and lanterns, may the eternal truth of the victory of good over evil be celebrated, wishing a celebration filled with peace, prosperity and tranquility for all.
“Today, I send my best wishes to every American celebrating Diwali – the ‘Festival of Lights.’ For many Americans, Diwali is a timeless reminder of the victory of light over darkness. It is also a time to bring families and friends together, celebrate community, draw strength from hope, and embrace the enduring spirit of renewal. As millions of citizens light lamps and lanterns, we rejoice in the eternal truth that goodness Will always triumph over evil. To every American celebrating Diwali, may this celebration bring lasting peace, prosperity, hope and peace, the President said in a statement.
FBI Director Kash Patel also joined in, wishing everyone a “Happy Diwali” and celebrating the festival as a symbol of good over evil. “Happy Diwali – the festival of lights is being celebrated across the world as the victory of good over evil,” he posted on X.

The Indian Embassy in the United States extended its greetings, wishing everyone health, happiness and prosperity. India’s Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra wrote on the micro-blogging site about hosting Special Envoy Sergio Gore at India House for Diwali celebrations ahead of his visit to India.

Israel also joined the celebrations. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended Diwali greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India, and emphasized the enduring partnership between Israel and India in innovation, defense and friendship.
Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office said the festival brings hope, peace and prosperity while highlighting the bonds between nations.

The official account of the State of Israel on X also offered good wishes, reflecting the festival’s power to inspire renewal and faith in a brighter future.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry also wished India on the Festival of Lights.

UAE Ambassador to India Abdulnasser Alshali on Monday greeted everyone on the occasion of Diwali and highlighted that the festival of lights has been a part of his visit to India since the beginning.

People across India are celebrating Diwali, a five-day festival that began on Dhanteras. On the day of Dhanteras, people buy jewelery or utensils and worship the Lord. The second day is called Narak Chaturdashi. It is also called Chhoti Diwali or Chhoti Diwali.
The third day of Diwali is the main day of celebration. People worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on this day and pray to them to bless them with wealth and prosperity.
The fourth day of Diwali is dedicated to Govardhan Puja. The fifth day is called Bhai Dooj. On this day, sisters pray for the long and happy life of their brothers by performing the Tika ceremony and brothers give gifts to their sisters.
