Premier League: Manchester United thump Brighton 4-2 for three wins in a row, climb in top four

Manchester United continued their upward surge in the Premier League with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday, securing their third consecutive league win — a feat they had not achieved since February 2024.

Ruben Amorim, overseeing Manchester United’s charge, recorded three wins in a row as head coach for the first time, guiding the Red Devils into fourth place with 16 points from their opening nine matches.

The home side took control early, with Casemiro opening the scoring through a crisp strike that took a deflection off Yasin Ayari, followed by Matheus Cunha breaking his 16-match scoring drought to net his first goal for the club. By the break, United were 2-0 up, cruising with authority.

The dominance continued after the hour mark when Bryan Mbeumo added a third, seemingly putting the contest beyond Brighton’s reach. But the visitors mounted a late comeback, with Danny Welbeck curling a brilliant free-kick into the net in the 75th minute, pulling one back for his former club. Then, deep into stoppage time, Charalampos Kostoulas flicked home a header from a corner to make it 4-2, adding late drama. Brighton’s appeals for a foul in the build-up and a red card for Patrick Dorgu were waved away by the officials.

Despite the late scare, Mbeumo’s second goal, drilled into the roof of the net, had already eased United’s nerves, ensuring all three points stayed at Old Trafford.

The victory adds to wins over Sunderland and Liverpool, reinforcing Manchester United’s momentum and sending a strong message to Premier League title contenders: the Red Devils are firmly back in the hunt.
