
Former champion Kidambi Srikanth progressed to the men’s singles final at the Syed Modi International badminton tournament here on Saturday after defeating compatriot Mithun Manjunath 21-15, 19-21, 21-13 in a last-four clash.
“It was important to get a good start and keep my mistakes low. Mithun always plays well against me, so happy with my performance,” Srikanth said.
Earlier, the women’s doubles duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand secured a commanding 21-11, 21-15 win over Malaysia’s Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting in the semi-finals.
However, Tanvi Sharma and Unnati Hooda lost their respective women’s singles semi-final matches. Tanvi succumbed to a 17-21, 16-21 loss to Japan’s Hina Akechi, while Unnati went down 15-21, 10-21 to Neslihan Arin of Turkey.
