The proposal was presented by Manickam Tagore, Manish Tiwari and Vijaykumar alias Vijay Vasanth. On the third day of the winter session, many opposition MPs reached Parliament wearing gas masks in protest against air pollution. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi had also said that issues like air pollution need to be discussed in Parliament.
- Tagore, in his notice to the Lok Sabha Secretary General, said the government had failed to formulate a coordinated national strategy and was “issuing advice instead of action, issuing committees instead of solutions”.
- “Even as there is evidence that pollution increases the risk of cancer, kidney disease, gastrointestinal disorders and metabolic diseases like diabetes, this government refuses to declare pollution a national health priority,” PTI quoted Tagore as saying in the notice.
- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is likely to introduce the Health Security to National Security Cess Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha today for consideration and passing, ANI reported.
- The purpose of the Bill is to raise resources to meet expenditure on national security and public health and to impose for the said purposes a cess on machines and other processes installed for the manufacture or production of specified goods.
Union Minister gave clarification on Sanchar Sathi app
On Wednesday, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia responded to the opposition’s claims that the state-owned cyber security app, Sanchar Sathi, is a privacy violator. Scindia said that Spying is neither possible nor possible with this app.He said its objective is to protect citizens from fraud.
Scindia said that the app order is being misinterpreted and the government is ready to make changes in the order based on feedback. Later in the day, the Center announced that it would withdraw the mandate for pre-installation of Sanchar Saathi.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Communications Ministry said it had decided to withdraw its mandate due to the “increasing acceptability” of the app.
