When Akshaye said he won't share screen space with Big B, Vinod Khanna

When Akshaye Khanna said he would not never share screen space with his father Vinod Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan: 'They’ve such an overpowering screen presence'

Akshaye Khanna has been in the news for the recent success of his film ‘Dhurandhar’ for which he is getting a lot of accolades. Meanwhile, the actor is also in the news for his exit from ‘Dhrishyam 3’. The actor has always been clear about his choices. Here’s recalling when Akshaye said he will not share screen space with his father Vinod Khanna and also Amitabh Bachchan. Akshaye did, in fact, make his acting debut opposite his father in the 1997 film ‘Himalaya Putra’. Revisiting that experience years later, he admitted that working alongside Vinod Khanna was an intimidating ordeal. In a 2008 interview with IANS, the actor spoke frankly about how overpowering he found the experience.

“There are certain people whom you shouldn’t work with. My dad is one of them. Amitabh Bachchan is another,” he said. “To stand in the same frame as them confidently is impossible. They’ve such an overpowering screen presence.”Far from undermining his father’s legacy, Akshaye’s remarks highlighted the extraordinary aura Vinod Khanna carried on screen. A defining star of the 1970s, Vinod Khanna was known for commanding attention effortlessly, a quality that even accomplished actors struggled to match, something Akshaye openly acknowledged.“It’s very difficult to match my father on screen,” Akshaye continued. “It’s that quality – either you have it or you don’t have it. Very frankly, I don’t have it. I just don’t have that kind of presence.”He went on to describe a certain indefinable magnetism that only a few actors possess. “There are some actors who just wash you away on screen. My dad is one of them,” he said.Years later, during a separate interview in 2017, Akshaye was asked if he would ever consider portraying his father in a biographical film. His response remained as straightforward as ever. “Playing his father is not an option for me because I do not look like Vinod Khanna. I don’t look anywhere close to my father… Not an option,” he said.Akshaye also touched upon the challenges associated with biopics, pointing out the inherent risks of portraying real-life personalities. “Biopics by nature, I suppose, as accurate as they can be, the better for an actor. It’s very challenging as well as risky,” he explained.
