India went through a horror day in Bengaluru on Thursday, dismissed for a mere 46 — their lowest ever Test total on home soil and third lowest overall.
Captain Rohit Sharma’s surprise decision to bat first under overcast skies at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on day two of the first Test went horribly wrong as five Indian batmen, including Virat Kohli, were dismissed without scoring.
Day one of the match on Wednesday was washed out by rain.
The Indian innings lasted just 31.2 overs, with Matt Hentry (5 for 15) and young Kiwi pacer William ORourke (4 for 22) starring with the ball for the visitors.
Rishabh Pant was the top-scorer for India with his knock of 20. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) was the only other batsman to enter double figures, while Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were dismissed without scoring.
