Star India fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s childhood coach Mohammed Badruddin has revealed that the fast bowler is all set to travel to Australia for the five-match Test series to begin from November 22. Notably, Shami recently made a comeback to professional cricket after almost a year as he played for Bengal in the fifth-round fixture against Madhya Pradesh at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.

The speedster continued from where he left off before his injury and picked 4/54 in 19 overs to bundle out Madhya Pradesh for 167 in reply to Bengal’s score of 228 in the first innings. Following his performance, it was reported that the fast bowler is all set to be flown to Australia for the Test series and now his coach has also confirmed the development saying that he will join the team after the second Test in Adelaide.

“He will be joining the Indian team after the Adelaide (second) Test. Now that he is back, proved his fitness, picked up wickets, he will be crucial for the team in the second half of the tour,” Badruddin was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Mohammed Shami’s record in Australia

Shami last played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 where he finished as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 24 wickets to his name from seven innings at an average of 10.70 and an economy of 5.26 with three five-wicket hauls. His last Test appearance came in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2023.

The speedster has been one of the key members of India’s formidable pace bowling attack in recent times and has scalped 31 wickets from eight matches in Australia at an average of 32.16 and an economy of 3.55. The fast bowler will be expected to use his experience to good effect in the upcoming series and help his seam partners Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.
