After 20 years, Paresh Rawal confirms ‘Malamaal Weekly 2,' Riteish Deshmukh and Rajpal Yadav in talks: ‘Yes, it is true...’
Priyadarshan’s 2006 hit ‘Malamaal Weekly’, a village comedy about a lost Rs 1cr lottery ticket sparking schemes, stars Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav, late Om Puri. After 20 years, Paresh confirms sequel: “Yes it is true. I am doing the film.”

Back in 2006, Priyadarshan dropped ‘Malamaal Weekly’, a riotous village tale about a stray lottery winner ticket that turns neighbors into schemers all chasing the prize. Packed with the late Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav, and Riteish Deshmukh, this under-the-radar smash is finally getting its sequel glow-up after 20 years.

Malamaal Weekly 2’ gets Paresh Rawal nod

While an official announcement on ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ is still awaited, Paresh Rawal confirms to Hindustan Times, “Yes it is true. I am doing the film.”

‘Malamaal Weekly’s 2012 reboot link

Interestingly, Priyadarshan directed a 2012 film titled ‘Kamal Dhamaal Malamaal’, believed to be a reboot of ‘Malamaal Weekly’. It also starred Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Om Puri, Nana Patekar, and others.

‘Bhagam Bhag 2’ update

On another note, Paresh is on board for ‘Bhagam Bhag 2’, following up the 2006 hit. Manoj Bajpayee steps in to replace Govinda for this new chapter.

‘Malamaal Weekly’ Plot Highlights

‘Malamaal Weekly’ featured Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav. It hit theaters in March 2006 and has now completed two decades. The comedy centered on the only literate man in a small village who learns that a fellow villager won a lottery worth Rs 1 crore, only to realize the winner passed away suddenly. What unfolds is a madcap chain of events, as villagers create crazy plans to hide the death from the lottery inspector while trying to fool their greedy village head and grab the prize money.Directed by Priyadarshan, the film also starred Reema Sen, Shakti Kapoor, Sudha Chandran, and the late Asrani and Rasika Joshi in pivotal roles.
