Dhurandhar 2 continues to break box office records and garner acclaim ever since its release last month on March 19. The spy thriller, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead, has also dominated social media conversation, with fans dissecting every frame of the Aditya Dhar-directed film. Adding fresh fuel to the buzz, a fan-made AI video has reimagined swaps if Dhurandhar was made with stars from the Malayalam film industry.

An ensemble of Mollywood stars
In a March 31 post on Instagram, Akhil Vinayak, an AI artist, who goes by the name Kanavu Kadha on the platform, crafted a world where the intensity of the original film meets a fresh spin with actors from the Malayalam film industry playing the various characters.
At the heart of this ‘what if’ scenario was the casting of Fahadh Faasil as Rahman Dakait (originally played by Akshaye Khanna). Faahadh, who is no stranger to playing antagonistic and menacing roles in his career, looked suave with a brooding intensity that perfectly mirrors the force of the character. He perfectly captured the role’s volatile energy in one of the AI-created pictures.
Then there was Unni Mukundan as Hamza Ali Mazari (originally played by Ranveer Singh). Unni’s digital composition captured the rugged charm of the character that was portrayed in the film, from an instance where he leads a gang war and bombs Lyari.
The artist did not stop at only these two characters. He reimagined the entire ensemble of the film with Mollywood stars. Nazriya Nazim captured the innocence of Yalina (Sara Arjun’s character), while Dulquer Salmaan played Uzair Baloch (Danish Pandor’s character). Sanjay Dutt’s menacing SP Aslam was reimagined with Joju George in the role. Meanwhile, Soubin Saahir was seen as Mohammad Aalam. Prithviraj Sukumaran inhabited the raw intensity of Major Iqbal (played by Arjun Rampal). Rakesh Bedi’s Jameel Jamali was imagined with Johny Antony.
About Dhurandhar
Dhurandhar was set in Lyari, Karachi, an area known for its history of gang wars and violent turf battles. It revolved around covert intelligence operations in the background of geopolitical and terror events like the Kandahar plane hijack, the 2001 Parliament Attack and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
The sequel delves into the origins of Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi, revealing the motivations behind his mission. It also takes the story forward, showing him taking control of the power dynamics in Lyari while working to dismantle a terror network in Pakistan that threatens India.
