A shocking case of family violence has come to light from Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh, where a woman allegedly attacked her own daughter after facing her illicit relationship with her son -in -law. The disturbing incident took place in the Kasturipuram tribal colony under KVB Puram Mandal.

According to police reports, Venkatamma, a widow from the colony, was in an illicit relationship with her son -in -law, Charan for the last few years. The 18 -year -old youth, Charan, first married Venkatamma’s 15 -year -old daughter. Both young men were allegedly in love and got married five months ago.

However, after marriage, Charan allegedly continued his relationship with his mother -in -law. Residents say that Venkatamma’s husband died a few years ago, and since then, she was living with her daughter.

According to locals, the situation increased on Friday night when Venkatama was allegedly performing a symbolic ritual with his son -in -law in the presence of his daughter. The teenage girl objected and tried to stop them, causing a hot confrontation.

In a fit of anger, Venkatamma allegedly attacked her daughter with a grinding stone, killing her on the head. The girl shouted to help, and the residents around ran to save her. He was taken to a hospital in Srikalahti area with heads and body injuries.

This incident caused widespread anger in the colony. Angry residents caught Venkatamma and Charan, assaulted them, and then handed them over to the police. The locals performed a symbolic function of “cleanliness”, reflecting the community’s anger and rejection of the relationship before informing the authorities.

Initial investigation revealed that Charan and Venkatamma were in a relationship for some time. When the daughter became suspicious and faced them, the affair was exposed. Reports suggest that Charan had already tied Venkatamma a symbolic wedding thread (plate), deepening the scam.

Angry over his daughter to object, Venkatama allegedly conspired to “remove the obstruction” with the phase. The night of the attack, he allegedly filled the girl’s mouth to silence her before she was beaten up. The neighbors weeping crying, rushed to the spot and rescued him.

After the attack, Venkatamma and Charan tried to escape from the colony and allegedly took shelter at a relative’s house in the Buchinidu Kandriga division. However, once his relatives came to know what happened, they refused to give him asylum. The police later tracked the two and took them into custody.

The shocking revelation has sent waves through the small tribal colony. The residents described the incident as “upset” and said that such acts had never happened before in their community.

Connecting stress, another member of the family, Kalpana – the wife of Charan’s brother – first warned him and Venkatamma to end their relationship and live responsibly. Reports show that both Charan and Venkatma also attacked Kalpana during the first confrontation.

Her husband, Bangaraiya, later lodged a police complaint, stating that his wife was attacked only to try to intervene. Local police have confirmed that the two women – daughter and Kalpana – hurt different incidents involving the same accused.

KVB Puram police have registered a case against Venkatamma and Charan for murder and other allegations. The investigation is on, and the statements of the witnesses are being recorded. Police said that community members initially tried to mediate the issue and even requested to contact the police station, but once the attacks and injuries were confirmed, formal allegations were filed.

Both the accused are currently in custody, and the medical report of the injured women is awaited. Police say they are also seeing how a young marriage between Charan and the girl applies under the POCSO Act.

A case reflects broad issues

The incident throws light on many social problems – younger marriage, domestic violence and breakdown of family structures in rural and tribal areas. Experts say that such cases often become inaccessible until violence occurs, as community pressure and social stigma prevent victims from seeking help.

While the case has attracted attention due to its shocking details, it also highlights the immediate need for awareness about consent, relationship boundaries and legal safety available to minors.

Meanwhile, the survivor, who is in the hospital, allegedly urged the police to ensure that both the accused are facing strict punishment. Community leaders have also appealed to the officials to organize awareness programs in the area about the safety and family counseling of women.

Police officials say that after completion of forensic and medical evidence, they will submit the charge sheet. The investigation of the case is going on.
