Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie on Sunday attended the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025 for a special screening of her latest film Couture. The actress turned emotional after an audience member asked her for advice on coping with the loss of a loved one to cancer. To note, the actress remembered her mother Marcheline Bertrand, as she lost her life to the disease.
Angelina Jolie gets teary eyed
In a video, Jolie cries after someone from audience ask her to share advice to anyone who recently lost someone to cancer. She got emotional and shared, “I think I will say that, one thing I remember my mother saying when she had cancer, she said to me once, we had had a dinner and people were asking her how she was feeling and what she was doing, and she said, `All anybody ever asks me about is cancer,`” Jolie remembered.

“So I would say, if you know someone who is going through something, ask them about everything else in their life as well, you know? They’re a whole person and they’re still living,” she added.
For those unversed, Bertrand was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1999 and was later diagnosed with breast cancer before her death in January 2007. In May 2013, Jolie revealed in an op-ed she wrote for the New York Times that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after learning she carries the BRCA1 gene, which increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

Jolie attended the film`s premiere donning a double-breasted coat dress with tights and black heels. The actor not only posed for shutterbugs but also spoke with media persons about the film Couture, which tells the story of an American filmmaker immersed in the Parisian fashion world, whose life takes an unexpected turn when she is confronted with a grave medical diagnosis.
Couture also makes history as the first fictional film to be shot inside Chanel`s iconic Paris showroom and atelier, as reported by Variety.
Apart from her professional endeavors, Jolie has been in news for her ugly split with Brad Pitt. The couple called it quit in 2029 and fought a legal battle after which their separation was finalized in 2024.
