After Lunch, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne walked out with purpose and looked solid, absorbing the pressure and steadying Australia once again. That resistance, though, was snapped just around the hour mark by Josh Tongue, who has bowled with far more control than in the first innings. In truth, all of England’s bowlers have tightened up in this session, creating chances, only to find luck refusing to go their way. As is often the case at this ground, Head looked right at home. After missing out in the first innings, he made amends with a fine half-century, finding good support from Usman Khawaja, the pair adding over 50 runs in the session to keep Australia on top and ensure England could not force further damage.
