Australia to play three T20I matches in Pakistan ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

Ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, Australia will play three T20I matches in Lahore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Wednesday.

The Aussies will be in action for the day-night matches at the Gaddafi Stadium on January 29, 31 and February 1 before the global showpiece.

Australia will play all of their T20 World Cup 2026 matches in India, whereas Pakistan`s matches have been scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka.

This is the first time since April 2022 that Australia will tour Pakistan for a T20I series, as they last came to the country to play a Test series and then a white-ball rubber that year.

Ahead of the shortest format series, the Australians are expected to reach Lahore on January 28. They had, however, played some of their Champions Trophy matches last year in Pakistan.

The Pakistani selectors are due to meet with head coach Mike Hesson and captain Salman Ali Agha later this week to finalise the squad for the Australia series and also the T20 World Cup 2026.

The squad will be announced next week after approval from the PCB chief, Mohsin Naqvi.

Pakistan will come off a draw in their T20I series in Sri Lanka, while Australia secured a stunning 4-1 win in the Ashes Test series against England.

Pakistan is placed in Group A along with teams such as India, Namibia, the Netherlands, and the United States of America (USA) for the T20 World Cup 2026. Group B of the tournaments consists of teams such as Australia, Ireland, Oman, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.

The “Green Shirts” will kick off their campaign by playing a clash against the Netherlands on February 7 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Sri Lanka. The high-octane match of the tournament between arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, is scheduled to be played on February 15 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

Australia`s first match is scheduled to be played against Ireland on February 11 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
