From war to plane crashes, knife attacks to canceled weddings, 2025 was no less than a Hindi feature film, full of action, drama and emotions. Here’s a breakdown of it all.

Pakistani actor Fawad Khan was about to make a comeback in Hindi cinema after the ban on Pakistani artists working in India was lifted. His film Abir Gulaal starring Vaani Kapoor was scheduled to release on 9 May. But due to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees protested against the release, leading to a ban on the film’s release in India. It was eventually released internationally in September.

G- Gaurav Khanna’s winning streak:

H- Hera Pheri 3 Casting Issue:

However, soon Rawal made a shocking announcement of his exit from the film, due to which Kumar, who is also the co-producer of the film, filed a case against Rawal. The issue lingered for a few weeks before Rawal decided to return to the film.

Samay Raina’s show became popular as soon as it was released on YouTube. Unfiltered and candid, audiences loved its raw nature. However, an ‘obscene’ joke by Ranveer Allahabadia during an episode landed the show in trouble and several FIRs were filed against Raina and him. Raina was also targeted for her jokes during other episodes and the Women’s Commission asked her to apologise.

J- Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz Epic French Open Final:

Currently the top two players in men’s tennis, Sinner and Alcaraz met for the first time in a Grand Slam final at the French Open in June. The marathon match lasted five hours and 29 minutes and is considered one of the best tennis matches in the history of the sport, with Joe Alcaraz defeating Sinner to win his fifth Grand Slam title.

K- Knife attack on Saif Ali Khan:

The year started on a disappointing note for actor Saif Ali Khan as he was attacked and stabbed multiple times during an alleged robbery attempt on the morning of January 16. The actor was taken to the hospital and the accused was later arrested.

L- Love again for Hardik Pandya:

After his divorce with actor Natasa Stankovic, cricketer Pandya found love again in model Mahika Sharma. The couple’s dating rumors began in September and they made their relationship Instagram official with photos from their vacation the following month.

M- Mandhana’s marriage with Muchhal which could not take place:

Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal’s high-profile wedding got canceled just a day before the big day. The reason given for the cancellation was that Muchhal had allegedly cheated on Mandhana with a member of the choreography team at his concert. While reports emerged that the wedding was being postponed due to the health of Mandhana’s father, in December the couple personally announced on Instagram that the wedding had been cancelled.

N- Shahrukh, Rani’s National Award wins:

After an illustrious career spanning decades, Shahrukh Khan And Rani Mukherjee won her first National Film Award this year for Jawan and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway respectively.

O- Operation Sindoor:

Following the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir on 22 April, India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May with missile strikes on terrorism-related infrastructure of Pakistan-based terrorist groups Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Azad Kashmir. The Pakistani Army responded the same day and it was the first drone battle between the two nuclear-armed countries.

P- Battle of property:

Controversy started over the demise of Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband Sanjay Kapoor after his sudden death on June 12. Property worth Rs 30000 crore between Sanjay’s wife Priya Sachdev Kapoor and Karishma’s children and Sanjay’s family. The case is still going on in the court and Priya is accused of tampering with Sanjay’s will.

Question- Air quality deteriorates:

Deteriorating air quality in metro cities, especially Delhi-NCR and Mumbai, has become a serious concern for Indian citizens. The report claims that the AQI index in Delhi crossed 1000 even though the equipment was designed not to calculate it beyond a certain limit.

R- Riya got clean chit:

After years of legal battles in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, Rhea Chakraborty finally got her passport back in September, and the following month the Central Bureau of Investigation gave her a clean chit, citing lack of sufficient evidence against her. This move was criticized by Sushant’s family.

S- Sayara Fever:

Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda’s first car soldier As soon as it was released, it created a stir across the country. Statements by MUO boss Raoul Rocha justifying it on the strength of passports also came under criticism, even leading to the fourth runner up for Côte d’Ivoire, Olivia Yese, resigning from her post.

V- Vanga vs Deepika:

The latter half of 2025 saw the fixed working time culture for working mothers being debated across the Indian film industry. It arose when Deepika Padukone was reportedly ostracized by Sandeep Reddy Vanga for demanding fixed shifts of eight hours to work on the film. Both the celebrities also took indirect digs at each other in public regarding the results.

W- World Cup win:

The Indian women’s cricket team created history by securing the country’s first win in the ICC Women’s World Cup in November. India won the trophy by defeating defending champion Australia in the semi-finals and then South Africa in the final. The encouraging thing is that this victory was achieved on the home ground of Mumbai.

X-X war between Musk and Trump:

Elon Musk was a vocal supporter of Donald Trump in his re-election campaign in the US elections, but their relationship turned sour this year and he made his comments public on X. From June to September, the two launched a series of verbal attacks on each other on social media platforms. The controversy arose following Musk’s departure from the second Trump administration with his criticism of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a bill that was intended to be landmark legislation for Trump.

Y- Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree’s divorce:

Chahal and Dhanashree were divorced by mutual consent by a family court in Mumbai on March 20. But what made the headlines during the proceedings was Chahal’s T-shirt which read, ‘Become your own sugar daddy.’ This has come to light amidst reports of Dhanashree demanding huge maintenance allowance from him. After their separation, both of them took a dig at each other in interviews and the show in which Dhanashree participated.

Z- Zendaya’s engagement to Tom:

Zendaya wore a large diamond ring to the Golden Globes in January, leading to reports that she and Tom Holland were engaged. Further reports claimed that the engagement took place during the holiday season in 2024. Although the couple has not talked about the engagement yet, Tom’s father Dominic Holland has confirmed it.
