Many parts of Bengaluru will face planned power disruption on Tuesday, December 23, as Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited is carrying out emergency maintenance work on key transmission infrastructure. The bandh will affect residential neighbourhoods, IT hubs and industrial areas in South, West and North Bengaluru, disrupting the daily routine of residents, offices and businesses.

Officials said the outage is necessary to meet urgent maintenance needs and prevent major system failures. Power supply will be restored as soon as the work is completed.

Why are there power cuts?

Power interruptions are scheduled to allow emergency repairs and maintenance at substations and feeders. Such shutdowns are typically performed when faults are detected or when system upgrades are required to maintain grid stability, especially during periods of sustained power load.

Residents are advised to plan in advance, charge essential devices and make alternative arrangements where necessary, especially work-from-home schedules, lifts, water pumps and medical equipment dependent on electricity.

South and West Bengaluru will be affected from 10 am to 4 pm

Large parts of South and West Bengaluru will face power cuts between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on Tuesday, December 23. The areas affected include Konankunte, Talaghattapura, Doddakalasandra, Srinidhi Layout, Avalahalli, Raghuvanahalli, Gubbalala, Kuvempunagar, VV Nagar and Layout, Balaji Layout, Royal Farms, Arehalli, Ittamadu, AGS Layout, Chikkalasandra, TG Layout, Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, ISRO Layout and surrounding industrial areas, Kumaraswamy. Layout, Vitthal Nagar, Vikram Nagar, Yelachenahalli, Kadirenahalli, and Abbaiah Naidu Studio area.

These neighborhoods include dense residential layouts, apartment complexes, schools, and small commercial establishments. Residents in these areas are likely to experience complete disruption in power supply during scheduled hours.

There will be afternoon power cut in Hebbal and Kempapura.

Parts of North Bengaluru, including Hebbal and Kempapura, will also face power cuts between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm on Tuesday, December 23. Many residential clusters and office areas come under this shutdown.

The affected areas include Manya Residency, BTS Layout, Godrej Apartment, Hebbal, Kempapura, Vinayak Layout, Chiranjeevi Layout, Venkatagowda Layout, Rachanahalli, Srirampura, Chamundeshwari Layout, Royal Enclave, Maestri Palya, Thanisandra, SNN Claremont, Carle Town Centre, B Narayanapura Cross, Mantri Lithos, Coffee Board Layout. Marianapalya, and Brigade caladium.

Corporate offices and technology complexes like Fidelity, Philips, IBM Block D1 to D4, Nokia L5, Siemens L6, MFAR, JNC and Madhuvana M2 Block are also expected to be affected. Employees working from these locations may experience temporary disruptions unless backup power is available.

EPIP and Tech Parks will have to remain closed for a long time till 5 pm

The longest outage window, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, December 23, will affect the EPIP layout and several key technology and industrial sectors. The affected areas include L&T, Ragihalli Siddapura Gate, EPIP Layout, TCS Software Complex, SJR Tech Park, VSNL Feeder Zone, Reliance Big Bazaar area, Oriental Hotel, Airtel Facilities, Bushra Tech Park, Gopalan Enterprises, Sada Tech Park, Qualcomm, GE BE Company, Bagman Neon Block and EPIP Industrial Area.

Businesses operating from these locations are expected to rely on generator backup to maintain operations during the shutdown.

What residents should keep in mind

Power supply is expected to be restored soon after the maintenance work is completed, although officials warned that the timeline for restoration may vary slightly depending on ground conditions. Residents are advised not to contact the helpline repeatedly during the outage window, as the shutdown is pre-scheduled.

The power cut on Tuesday, December 23, is expected to be felt widely across Bengaluru, with multiple areas affected at the same time. Since cities rely heavily on uninterrupted power for homes, offices and essential services, such planned shutdowns highlight the importance of preparedness and advance planning.
