CIL's CSR spending surpasses Rs 5,570 crore in last 10 years

NEW DELHI: Over the past 10 years, Coal India Ltd has allocated Rs 5,570 crore for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives with main primary focus on education, healthcare, sports, skill development and women empowerment, chairman PM Prasad revealed on Sunday.
“Coal India spent Rs 5,570 crore in Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives over the past 10 years,” Prasad said.
During the inauguration of the 3rd CIL CSR Conclave 2024 on Sunday, West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose highlighted the significant role of CSR initiatives in uplifting communities, particularly in the tribal areas of coal-rich regions.
“CSR initiatives are a powerful tool to transform lives, especially in vulnerable regions,” Bose told news agency PTI.
He also complimented the PSU’s contributions, including its efforts to support cancer patients, and said that such initiatives contribute to the holistic development of the nation.
Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt also praised coal companies for their impactful CSR projects over the past decade, highlighting the positive impact of these initiatives on coal-bearing regions.
“Communities in coal-bearing areas are equal stakeholders in coal companies’ activities. A theme-based CSR calendar can help prioritize key areas, starting with education in January,” Dutt said.
