Dhurandhar 2: Madras HC bars illegal streaming of Ranveer Singh`s film

Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 has received legal protection from the Madras High Court, which has barred unauthorised streaming and broadcast of the film until April 15. Acting on a plea by Reliance Industries and Jio Studios, the court issued directives to curb piracy, citing the risk of significant financial and copyright losses.

Madras HC issues order against piracy of Dhurandhar 2

Ahead of its theatrical release, the Madras High Court on Wednesday (March 18) restrained the unauthorised broadcast and streaming of the spy thriller. This step has been taken to curb piracy of Dhurandhar 2. The court issued an order to internet service providers and cable TV operators to stop illegally streaming or telecasting the film until April 15, as reported by Bar and Bench.

Passed by Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, the petition was filed by Reliance Industries Limited and Jio Studios, who flagged concerns over potential copyright violations and unauthorised dissemination of the film across digital and cable platforms. The court noted that the film is scheduled for release on March 19 and observed that, in such cases, the risk of irreparable harm is significant if interim relief is not granted. It also directed Reliance to indemnify the respondents for any potential losses arising from the injunction. Subject to this condition, it restrained the respondents from unlawfully broadcasting or transmitting the film until April 15, 2026.

More about Dhurandhar 2

Dhurandhar 2 marks the sequel to Dhurandhar, helmed by Aditya Dhar. It stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Sara Arjun. The film is said to be inspired by real-life events, focusing on geopolitical tensions and covert operations carried out by India`s intelligence agencies, particularly Operation Lyari, a crackdown by the Pakistani government targeting gangs and criminal networks in Karachi`s Lyari area.

Ahead of the release, Aditya Dhar requested the audience not to leak any spoilers associated with the film. The makers also faced a hiccup before release due to a technical glitch during paid previews across several states. From delayed shows to last-minute cancellations, the technical issues left fans enraged in several theatres, resulting in chaos. As soon as the issue was flagged, the makers issued an apology and assured cinegoers of refunds or the rescheduling of shows.
