Don Bosco High School, Matunga clinched the boys U-16 Ahmed Sailor Trophy with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Dr Antonio Da Silva High School (Dadar), in the final of the Dream Sports-Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA)-organised tournament at the Don Bosco turf in Matunga on Sunday.

The first half was largely dominated by midfield play as neither side allowed the opposition much space to attack. Don Bosco enjoyed more of the possession and tried to build through the wings, but the Dr Antonio Da Silva defence stood tall, ensuring  the opening half ended goalless.

After the break, the Bosco boys showed greater urgency and quickly took control of the proceedings. Their persistence was rewarded when Royden Koli opened the scoring. The hardworking forward made the most of a neat build-up move and finished with confidence to put Don Bosco ahead.

Don Bosco lifted the tempo thereafter, and Arnav Phanse doubled the lead with a composed strike.

Meanwhile, in the girls U-16 final for the Panchgani Old Boys trophy, New Bombay City School (Ghansoli), in their maiden appearance, beat Carmel of St Joseph (Malad) 1-0 in the final. Carmel of St Joseph enjoyed early possession and tried to attack, but New Bombay City’s defence remained compact. Gradually settling into the contest, New Bombay City began to threaten on the counter, using the flanks effectively to stretch the Carmel backline. Sonakshi Nandikole netted the all-important winner after capitalising on a poor clearance by the Malad side.
