Dubai, UAE News Live: A general view of the Dubai skyline, with Burj Khalifa at its centre, amid the US-Israeli conflict with Iran in the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai, UAE War News Live Updates: The UAE Defense Ministry said on Monday that its air defense systems successfully intercepted a significant barrage of projectiles launched from Iran, amid rising regional tensions. In a post on social media platform X, the ministry confirmed the scale of the latest engagement.
“UAE air defense systems targeted 7 ballistic missiles and 16 UAVs launched from Iran,” the official statement said.
The latest interception adds to the staggering amount of fire directed at the country since the beginning of hostilities. “Since the beginning of the blatant Iranian aggression, UAE air defenses have engaged 352 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1789 UAVs,” the ministry said, detailing the cumulative impact of the conflict.
The human toll has increased as a result of ongoing military operations, with the ministry reporting casualties of both service members and the public.
“These attacks resulted in the martyrdom of 2 members of the armed forces, 6 civilian deaths and 161 minor to serious injuries while performing their national duty,” the statement said.
UAE diplomatic engagements
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke by phone with NATO chief Mark Rutte to discuss the ongoing military increase in the region and its implications for regional and international security, as well as the impact on international shipping and the global economy.
He also met Catherine Vautrin, Minister of Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs of France, with whom he discussed cooperation and coordination between the two countries in defense matters and their shared commitment to strengthening them within the framework of the two countries’ strategic partnership.
oil prices
Oil prices fell nearly 8 percent hours before the deadline after US President Donald Trump said he would postpone for five days any military strikes against Iranian power plants and cited constructive talks to resolve hostilities in the Middle East, threatening an escalation of the four-week-old war.
Brent futures fell $8.92, or 8.0 percent, to $103.27 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate fell $7.17, or 7.3 percent, to $91.06.
Extreme price movements in recent weeks – on Friday Brent closed at its highest level since July 2022 – pushed the historical or real 30-day futures volatility of both crude benchmarks to levels not seen since April 2022.
