Exclusive | ‘Emotionally draining’: Sumbul Touqeer on Itti Si Khushi track

Sumbul Touqeer is currently winning hearts as Anvita in Itti Si Khushi, and the actress recently opened up about filming emotionally intense scenes, the realism of the storyline, and what she seeks in a future partner.

Speaking about the ongoing track, Sumbul admitted that while she is enjoying the journey, the emotional depth of the scenes can be overwhelming. “I’m enjoying it just that, you know, sometimes these, like, very emotional scenes, they become quite draining. Right. For not just me, I think all of us, because we’ve been performing these draining scenes since a few days,” she shared. Despite the exhaustion, she finds the experience fulfilling, adding, “Even though we are enjoying it a lot, because of course, as I’ve said before, I have never done, like, I’ve never done scenes like these.”

Highlighting the show’s realistic storytelling, Sumbul pointed out how the narrative reflects real-life situations. “I think the issues that have come up in our show so far, that we’ve shown, they have been quite realistic. Like, if there’s any, you know, physical violence in any marriage, when the family finds out, then families are not always supportive. Right,” she said.

Elaborating further, she explained the contrasting reactions families can have. “Sometimes it happens that mom and dad, like Anvita’s mom and dad, are on Anvita’s side, like, leave it. But there are a few people, like, some parents are like, this is how marriages are. This is how it’s done, blah, blah, blah.”

Talking about the characters in the show, Sumbul reflected on their layered personalities. “And apart from that, you know, being, like, a husband like Sanjay, and then on the other hand, being a guy like Virat. So, I think there are so many realistic things in the show, like Sanjay having anger issues, even though, you know, he’s been, he’s been trying, you know, ‘I’ll change.’ But that’s the issue with him, he can’t change himself.”

She also revealed a moment from the show that deeply resonated with her. “I think I really liked the moment, like, when she got slapped, and she did not, you know, take a lot of time, she just picked up her bag and her children, and she just left that house. Right. That is something that I would like that courage, I would want that. And yeah, that’s it.”

On the kind of future partner she wants

When asked about her expectations from a future partner, the actress was candid and clear. “I’m not very sure because nobody wants a husband like Sanjay, I think. And on the other hand, I think Virat is somewhere a very supportive guy. So, who does not want that?” she said.

Summing it up, she added, “I would want my partner to be very supportive of me and you know, to understand me, to listen to me and never, you know, undermine me.”

With such honest reflections, Sumbul continues to connect with audiences, both through her performance and her candid thoughts off-screen.
