Spreha Chatterjee on TRP and audience feedback
In daily soaps, nothing really stays fixed for long. Tracks change, characters evolve, and sometimes the story takes a sudden jump without much warning. For actors, this can feel overwhelming, but Spreha looks at it in a practical and grounded way. She admits that such changes are simply part of the job and something every television actor learns to deal with over time.
Opening up about her process, Spreha said, “Since daily soaps often evolve based on TRPs and audience feedback, quick changes and quick adaptation to those changes become a part of an actor’s job.” She shared that whenever a leap or unexpected twist comes in, her first instinct is to return to the basics of her character. “When such a leap or sudden change in storyline happens in a show like Anupamaa, I go back to understanding my character Mahi`s core personality and emotions,” she explained.

Instead of resisting change, she chooses to go along with it. The actress added, “Also, I just stay flexible and don`t get too attached to one version of my character and see it as a chance to explore something new.” For her, this mindset helps remove pressure and keeps the performance fresh.
Spreha also spoke about the effort that goes into showing these transitions convincingly on screen. She shared, “I put in the effort to understand why Mahi is changing, what she’s been through, and how that reflects in her behaviour.” According to her, once that clarity comes in, the performance naturally falls into place. “This helps me to show that shift in my character with much clarity, making it sure that the audience still connects with her growth in a real and believable way.”
With the story of Anupamaa continuing to evolve, Spreha’s approach highlights how actors constantly adapt behind the scenes. Her take on handling sudden changes shows a mix of patience, understanding, and willingness to grow with the character, which is clearly reflecting in her performance.
