Jamnabai Narsee (Juhu) held Bombay Scottish (Powai) to a hard-fought 1-1 draw in a boys U-16 Division-II match of the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school football tournament at Wings Sports Centre, Bandra, on Friday.
Jamnabai got off to a flying start in the second minute as striker Meir Kadakia smashed the ball into the right corner.
The Juhu side looked in control for much of the first half and created plenty of chances. However, Bombay Scottish goalkeeper Zach Varghese was up to the task and made two crucial saves in the first 25 minutes. Varghese continued to shine for Bombay Scottish after the break too. He pulled off four more vital saves, showcasing his agility and sharp reflexes.
The Powai outfit rewarded their custodian for his efforts with a goal in the 28th minute after a rapid counter-attack, with Akshaj Shetty finding space near the edge of the box and calmly striking into the top corner to level the scores.
Meanwhile, in another boys U-16 Division-II match at the same venue, Hiranandani Foundation (Powai) beat Holy Cross (Kurla) 3-0. Namish Mahadik, Prehaan Shetty, and Hridhan Kahate scored a goal each for Hiranandani.
