Jasprit Bumrah is on the cusp of a major landmark in his career. Bumrah has a chance of becoming India’s leading wicket-taker in Tests for India on Australian soil. Kapil Dev currently holds the record, having taken 51 wickets from 11 matches at an economy rate of 2.39 with five five wicket-hauls to show for his efforts.
Bumrah currently has 49 wickets to his name from 10 games at an economy rate of 2.50 with three five-wicket hauls. The speedster will have a chance to go past Kapil in the ongoing third Test against the Aussies at The Gabba in Brisbane. The pacer is in stupendous form after he took his 12th five-wicket haul in Tests on Day 2 of the Test.

Bumrah won the Player of the Match award in the Perth Test as India won by 295 runs to go 1-0 up. With India’s back against the wall, Bumrah has again shown why he is deemed as one of the best in world cricket. He could not take a wicket on Day 1 of the Brisbane Test after only 13.2 overs were possible on the day. But on the second day, Bumrah showed his class.
At Stumps on Day 2, Bumrah had figures of 25-7-72-5. He took the wickets of Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. But despite his stupendous efforts, Australia finished Day 2 at 405 for seven in 101 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy picked up one wicket apiece.
