India captain Jasprit Bumrah equalled the legendary Dale Steyn with a stunning dismissal of Steve Smith in the opening Test match between India and Australia at Perth. Bumrah pinned Smith plumb in the middle of the wicket in the 7th over of Australia’s first innings. This meant that Bumrah matched Steyn to become only the second bowler to dismiss Smith for a golden duck in a Test match.
The Indian speedster, who was sold short by the batters in Perth, came out breathing fire against the Australian batters. Bumrah picked up 3 quick wickets in his opening spell to put India in a terrific position after the team had been bowled out for just 150 runs in their first innings at Perth.
AUS vs IND, 1st Test, Day 1: Live Updates and Reactions
Smith has only scored 11 ducks in 196 innings that he has played in. This is only the second time that Smith was dismissed for a golden duck in his career. Interestingly, the last time that Smith got out in the first ball that he faced, he was trapped in front of the Stumps by Dale Steyn in Gqeberha, way back in 2014, when he used to bat in the lower-order.
Bumrah could have had the fourth wicket if Virat Kohli had been able to catch a simple chance in the second slip against Marnus Labuschagne.
