Dark clouds hover over the second semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup where India take on Australia. Set to be played in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 29, spells of rain are expected to mar the game.
Late showers in the build-up to the winter season in India have already affected India’s last group-stage match in Mumbai, and the rain is expected to play a key role in the high-voltage semi-final clash at the DY Patil Stadium as well.
Rain is expected to fall in the morning on Thursday, and then a thick cloud cover is expected for the rest of the day. But as we have seen in the past week, more often than not, rain spells do interrupt the game.

So, what happens if rain washes out play on Thursday? Do India get knocked out of the tournament?
Well, not really. The ICC expected rain interruptions in the World Cup knockouts, and reserve days have been kept for each of the knockout fixtures.
If the match cannot happen on October 30, it will take place on October 31. And if that day gets washed out by rain as well, then Australia will qualify for the final by virtue of their position in the points table in the group phase of the tournament.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s India will hope that rain interruptions do not play their part on Thursday. India have bowlers who can exploit the cloud cover well and will be expected to deliver the goods in home conditions.
Australia might be without the services of their captain Alyssa Healy, which will play to the team’s advantage.
Navi Mumbai: Pitch and Weather Report
The DY Patil Stadium has traditionally been a batting friendly track. Under the lights, the ball does swing early on, but that fizzles out when the shine is lost.
It is expected to be overcast throughout the day in Navi Mumbai, which will play its role for the seamers in the first 10 overs.
