After England put up a decent total on the board in the first innings of the third Test match against India, Joe Root has expressed his happiness by saying, `I think it`s a good score.”
Team India bowled out England for 387 runs in 112.3 overs in their first innings, thanks to lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who registered a five-wicket haul. The pacer returned with the figures of five wickets by conceding 74 runs in 27 overs.
Speaking about his team`s innings, Root said, “I think it`s a good score. I think we will have a better indication when they finish their innings”.
“But I do feel generally here the pitch plays best day two, and it is going to be very hot, very dry. It is already very slow. It generally goes up and down and offers something later on in the game. So the fact we have got those runs on the board I think is crucial. There were two brilliant partnerships,” he added.
During England`s first innings, Root played a knock of 104 runs off 199 deliveries, which was laced with 10 boundaries.
The right-hander also expressed his views on the return of fierce pacer Jofra Archer. Praising the pacer, he said Archer can contribute in a way that other players can`t.
“He has shown that when he`s played white ball cricket for England, when it is in the IPL, big games he turns up and he does things that other players can`t. And you saw that in a short burst,” said the 34-year-old.
“So I do think he is going to play a big part with the rest of the group. And I think one thing that you will say about it is he compliments nicely the rest of the attack. And at different points throughout the game, they are all going to have to work together and play their part in taking these 20 wickets if we are going to win this game,” he added.
Currently, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are at the crease on Day 3 of the third Test for India. The duo has been shouldering each other well and has been showcasing a stunning batting display.
Earlier, Karun Nair returned to the pavilion after playing a knock of 40 runs, which came in 62 balls, including four boundaries. Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Shubman Gill registered low scores. Gill accumulated 16 runs, whereas Jaiswal could only manage to register 13 runs under his name.
India is still trailing behind with a tally of over 150 runs.
