Ind vs Eng 5th Test: Varun Aaron speaks about Shubman Gill`s approach on Day 3

Former Team India pacer Varun Aaron feels that skipper Shubman Gill is aware of his role and backed him to play a big knock in the fifth Test match against England.

In India`s first innings, Gill lost his wicket in an attempt to take a risky single.

Speaking about his approach on Day 3 of the Test, Aaron told JioHotstar, “I don`t think Gill will be taking any risky singles, that`s for sure”.

Further, the former pacer is hopeful of the Indian skipper delivering a similar performance he did in the previous matches.

“But I hope he plays just like he has throughout this series. He`s already broken multiple records and could even surpass Sunil Gavaskar`s tally in this series,” Aaron said.

“If he gets a big one…India can push for a lead of over 300, and that would really tilt the game. The key will be how Gill bats, and I think he knows his role is central to India`s plans,” he added.

Meanwhile, in India`s second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered an unbeaten knock of 51 runs, which came in 49 balls, including seven boundaries and two maximums. Fellow opening batsman, KL Rahul, however, departed early for seven runs.

Sai Sudharsan, too, lost his wicket on a low score. The left-hander faced 29 balls and scored 11 runs, with the help of one boundary.

After losing two crucial wickets, the management had sent Akash Deep to bat, who will be shouldering Jaiswal. The duo will resume Day 3 with the overnight score of 75 runs for the loss of two wickets in 18 overs.

Earlier, in England`s first innings, Crawley (64 in 57 balls, with 14 fours) and Ben Duckett (43 in 38 balls, with five fours and two sixes) put on a 92-run stand. After both openers were dismissed at the score of 129 runs, there was a batting collapse triggered by Krishna (4/62) and Siraj (4/83). Harry Brook (53 in 64 balls, with five fours and a six) did score a half-century, but could not prevent England from getting dismissed for just 247 runs, giving England a slender 23-run lead.
