India set 374-run target, Josh Tongue claims five wickets

On Day 3 of the fifth Test match against England, Team India were bowled out for 396 runs. Washington Sundar gave the finishing touches to India`s innings. Facing 46 balls, he smashed 53 runs, with the help of four boundaries and the same number of maximums.

England now needs 374 runs to come victorious in the fifth Test match against Team India.

Opening the second innings for India, the side lost the early wicket of KL Rahul, as he scored seven runs in 28 balls, including a boundary. Number three batsman, Sai Sudharsan, too, departed early. The left-hander scored 11 runs in 29 balls, including a boundary.

Despite the early loss of wickets, Yashasvi Jaiswal played a knock of 118 runs. His century came in 164 balls, which was laced with 14 boundaries and two maximums.

Akash Deep, coming in as a night watchman, accumulated 66 runs off 94 balls. He also smashed 12 boundaries during his knock. Skipper Shubman Gill was not able to score many runs. He returned to the pavilion after scoring 11 runs in nine balls, including two boundaries.

On the other hand, Karun Nair garnered 17 runs, including three boundaries in 32 balls. Later, Ravindra Jadeja scored 53 runs in 77 balls, including five boundaries.

Shouldering Jadeja was Dhruv Jurel, who played a knock of 34 runs off 46 balls, including four boundaries. Mohammed Siraj departed on a duck after facing three balls. Prasidh Krishna stayed unbeaten on zero runs after facing two balls.

Josh Tongue claimed five wickets, followed by Gus Atkinson`s three-wicket haul. Jamie Overton, too, bagged two wickets by conceding 98 runs. Jacob Bethell and Joe Root went wicketless in India`s second innings.

Currently, England is leading the five-match Test series by 2-1, and if they manage to win the ongoing match, they will then seal the contest by 3-1. It will be interesting to see if Gill manages to draw his debut series as a captain.
