Pakistan got their tournament off to a terrific start, beating Malaysia by 297 runs. Batting first, Pakistan posted 345/3 in their 50 overs, riding on centuries from Sameer Minhas (177 off 148) and Ahmed Hussain (132 off 114). In reply, Malaysia were bowled out for just 48 as Ali Raza (3/11) and Mohammad Sayyam (3/27) scalped three wickets each.
