Indian badminton star PV Sindhu pulls out of remaining BWF Tour events in 2025

Two-time Olympic medallist and India`s badminton star PV Sindhu has decided to withdraw from all remaining Badminton World Federation (BWF) Tour events in 2025.

She will now focus on her recovery from a foot injury. The 30-year-old badminton athlete took her official social media handle by sharing a post, which stated, the decision was taken after detailed consultations with her support staff and renowned sports medicine specialist, Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala.

She sustained a foot injury ahead of the European leg of the ongoing season. Despite witnessing significant improvement, the injury demands careful management to ensure long-term fitness and performance.

With guidance from her medical and performance teams, it was agreed that prioritising complete recovery over short-term competition is the best way forward.

While stepping away from the remainder of the 2025 calendar was not an easy choice, Sindhu has already begun a structured rehabilitation and training programme under close supervision. Her regimen focuses on physical conditioning, recovery protocols, and gradual reintroduction to on-court training, with the singular aim of returning to peak performance.

The Hyderabad-born athlete expressed her gratitude for the support and encouragement she keeps receiving from the sporting fraternity, fans and well-wishers. Sindhu is eager to step again on the court sometime in January 2026.

She will then focus on recovery and preparation for the next phase in her career.

Her team emphasised that this break, while temporary, will only strengthen her resolve and readiness for future challenges, including key tournaments in the lead-up to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Earlier, she was named to the BWF Athletes` Commission for a third term.

The two-time Olympic medallist was previously a member of the BWF Athletes` Commission from 2017 to 2025. She has also been a BWF Integrity Ambassador since 2020.

Sindhu, considered to be one of the most celebrated shuttlers in Indian badminton history, will join four other athletes on the Commission for the new term.

The role of the BWF Athletes` Commission is to ensure that the voices of the badminton players are represented at the highest level. Along with this, the Commission also acts as a consultative body to the BWF Council, advising on key matters such as tournament regulations, player welfare, integrity and the overall competitive environment.
