Indians across the world celebrated on Monday (January 26, 2026) 77th republic day With global leaders, including US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping And French President Emmanuel Macron and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay extended greetings, highlighting their strong friendship with India.
NRIs dressed in vibrant traditional attire celebrated Republic Day at the country’s missions abroad, where the national tricolor was hoisted.

“On behalf of the people of the United States of America, I extend warm greetings to the Government and people of India as you celebrate your Republic Day. The United States and India share a historic bond as the world’s oldest and largest democracies,” Mr Trump said in a message.
Mr Macron posted a photo of himself and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Instagram and said, “What a wonderful memory of #RepublicDay we shared together in 2024!” “My dear friend @NarendraModi, dear Indian friends, my best wishes on this great day of celebration. ‘Promoting peace’
Congratulating his Indian counterpart Draupadi Murmu on Republic Day, President Xi said India-China relations continue to improve and develop, which are in line with the fundamental interests of the two countries and their people, and are of great significance for maintaining and promoting world peace and prosperity.
Mr Xi stressed that China has always believed that being good neighbours, friends and partners who help each other succeed and achieving the “dragon and elephant dancing together” was the right choice for both China and India.
Mr Tobgay extended Republic Day greetings and wished that “the enduring friendships continue to grow stronger.” “I join the people of Bhutan in extending warm greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, the Government of India and the people of India on Republic Day. This joyous occasion celebrates India’s inspiring journey and reflects the close ties and shared values between our two countries,” he said in a post on Twitter.
In Beijing, Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat hoisted the tricolor and read out excerpts from President Murmu’s address to the nation.

A thematic exhibition traced the history of Vande Mataram, highlighting its powerful role in uniting the nation during India’s freedom struggle. The program included many cultural programmes.
India’s Consul General in Shanghai Prateek Mathur hoisted the tricolor.
The event was marked with pomp and grandeur, and the ceremony was attended by over 400 friends of India from the local Indian diaspora, Chinese community and diplomatic and consular corps, including 20 Consuls General representing friends and partners of the European Union, said a post from the Consulate on X.
rubio’s message
In Washington, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a special message to India on the occasion of the country’s Republic Day. “On behalf of the people of the United States of America, I extend warm greetings to the people of India on your Republic Day,” Mr Rubio said in a message issued on Sunday.
“The United States and India share a historic bond. From our close cooperation on defense, energy, critical minerals and emerging technologies to our multilateral engagement through the Quad, the US-India relationship delivers real results for both our countries and the Indo-Pacific region,” Mr Rubio said, referring to the grouping of Australia, India, Japan and the US.
Mr Rubio said he looked forward to working closely with India to “advance our shared objectives in the year ahead”.
In Singapore, Indian High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule led the Indian expatriate community in celebrating Republic Day at the Chancery in Singapore.
Dr Ambule read the President’s address and congratulated the more than 1,200 members of the community who came with family members to the event on Monday morning despite the start of the working week.
Students from Indian schools presented cultural dances on traditional music while patriotic songs were played by the guests to full applause. Team members of the Sarang helicopter contingent, who are here for the Singapore Airshow next week, joined the celebrations with the Indian community at the Chancery.
In Japan, Ambassador-designate Naghma M Malik hoisted the flag.
“Embassy of India, Tokyo celebrated the 77th Republic Day of India. The celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag by Ambassador-designate Ms Nagma M Mallick @IndianEmbTokyo, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the reading of the address to the nation by the Hon’ble President of India,” the embassy said in a post on X.
Sri Lankan High Commissioner Santosh Jha hoisted the flag at India House in Colombo. Members of the Indian diaspora were also included with him.

Shri Jha also paid homage at the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) Memorial honoring the brave Indian soldiers.

The ceremony echoed with national enthusiasm as the Sri Lankan Navy played beloved patriotic tunes.
“To mark 150 years of India’s national song, #VandeMataram, students of @iccr_colombo paid a lively tribute through captivating Kathak and Bharatnatyam performances, celebrating its timeless legacy through dance,” the post said.
Also, Sri Lankan opposition leader and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa extended greetings to India on the occasion of Republic Day celebrations.
Mr Premadasa praised the country’s “enduring” commitment to democracy.
“On India’s Republic Day, I extend my warm wishes to the people of India. In a turbulent world, India’s enduring commitment to democracy stands as a reminder that institutions, resilience and the will of the people still matter. May your Republic grow stronger,” he said in a post on Twitter.
