India`s limited-over dominance shows the world how to play white ball cricket

After a thrilling win against England, Team India has entered yet another final of the World Cup. The `Men in Blue” have made a habit of going deep in the ICC tournaments, with this recent win cementing their place in the history books.

With their win in Mumbai, India became the first team ever to qualify for 4 consecutive ICC finals of limited-overs cricket. Currently, India is the defending champion in both the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy, with only the 50-over World Cup out of their grasp.

In the past, the cricket world has seen similar domination with Australia. The Kangaroos dominated during the late 90s and early 2000s, reaching four ODI finals in a row from 1996 to 2007, however, it took them until 2006 to win the ICC Champions Trophy.

India`s recent dominance has stemmed from a changed approach. The free-flowing, attacking mindset has helped the Indian team establish itself as the dominating force in limited-overs cricket. After constant disappointments and knock-out stage losses until 2023, the tide has recently turned for the `Men in Blue”
India made an ODI World Cup final for the first time in 12 years, when they faced Australia at the Cricket World Cup final in Ahmedabad 2023. That heartbreaking loss against the Aussies left a sour taste in the mouth for the fans, but turned out to be a springboard for further success.

After the Ahmedabad debacle in 2023, India went on to win the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the USA and West Indies. With the final match leaning towards South Africa, a similar feeling of `so close yet so far` started to creep in, before a Jasprit Bumrah inspired bowing performance handed team India an ICC silverware for the first time since 2013.

This epic at the T20 World Cup was followed by another clinical campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Rohit Sharma-led outfit dominated the tournament before beating New Zealand in the final in Dubai.

Such has been the Indian dominance that they have lost just two out of their last four ICC tournaments. However, both those losses have come at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the venue for Sunday`s T20 World Cup final against New Zealand.

India will aim to break the Ahmedabad jinx against New Zealand at the T20 World Cup 2026 final

India will face New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with the World T20 Championship on the line. India`s record in Ahmedabad is good. The `Men in Blue` have won 7 out of the 10 T20I`s at the venue, but their big-game record at the stadium could be a concern.

India lost their only match of the T20 World Cup 2026, in Ahmedabad, in the Super 8 stages against South Africa. While the South Africa defeat was just a blip in India`s current T20 World Cup run, the loss earlier against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final still lives fresh in the minds of cricket fans.

With a record 4 consecutive limited-overs finals already made, Team India will hope to create further history by becoming the first-ever team to defend their T20 World Champions crown on Sunday.
