Mitchell Marsh backed Rishabh Pant to make a strong comeback and make a statement in Lucknow Super Giants’ last two matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. On Monday, May 19, LSG crashed out of the tournament after their six-wicket defeat to the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Pant has been under pressure after becoming the most expensive player in IPL history when the Super Giants shelled out a whopping Rs 27 crore for the wicketkeeper-batter. In 12 matches, Pant scored 135 runs at an average of 12.27 at a strike-rate of 100 with a top score of 63.
“He’d be the first one to say that he hasn’t had the season that he would have liked. But I know for myself personally that that’s the way cricket goes sometimes and we know that he’s a fantastic player, highly skilled and highly talented. So he will be back, hopefully, in the last two games,” Marsh said in the post-match press conference.
After being asked to bat first, LSG scored 205 for the loss of seven wickets. Marsh and Markram laid the platform with knocks of 65 and 61 respectively. But the Sunrisers chased down the target with 10 balls to spare.
“They bowled very well to their plans throughout the middle order. And maybe we were probably 15 short on what was a really good wicket. And, you know, the margins are very small in this game. But as we know, you can have 180 or 280 on the board and you never really feel safe against the Sunrisers. So they’re a dangerous side and they batted beautifully,” Marsh added.
The Super Giants will play for pride when they face Gujarat Titans on May 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
