Virat Kohli suffered an injury scare during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) first home match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday, April 2, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In the fifth ball of the 12th over of GT’s run chase, the 36-year-old sustained a finger injury while attempting to stop a boundary.
RCB vs GT, IPL 2025 Highlights
In an unusual display of sloppiness, the Delhi-born Kohli misfielded a powerful shot from Sai Sudharsan. The GT batter, on one knee, drove a delivery from Krunal Pandya like a bullet to deep mid-wicket. Kohli reached the ball but was unable to hold on as it burst through his grasp after pitching on the half-volley.
To make things worse, the ball went for a boundary. Following the incident, Kohli appeared to be in significant discomfort as he received treatment, leaving the entire stadium and thousands of RCB fans holding their breath. But a determined Kohli showed guts and carried on fielding.

Rough day for Kohli, RCB
Kohli didn’t have the best of days as he scored seven runs off six balls before left-arm spinner Arshad Khan accounted for his wicket. Arshad bowled a short delivery on leg stump and presented Kohli with an opportunity for a pick-up pull. But the batter lacked conviction and failed to either keep the shot down or clear the fence entirely.

Instead, Kohli dragged it to the fielder, Prasidh Krishna, who took a straightforward catch. Arshad raised his eyes to the heavens in jubilation, while stunned silence enveloped the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB went on to put up a decent score of 169 for the loss of eight wickets on the back of Liam Livingstone’s 54 and Tim David’s quick-fire 32 not out. The Titans chased down the target with 13 balls left in their innings. Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 73 took GT past the finish line.
