IPL 2026: Yashasvi Jaiswal reflects on his unbeaten 77-run knock against MI

In the rain-curtailed IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR) emerged victorious by 27 runs at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.

Due to rain interruptions, both teams were restricted to play 11 overs each. In the first essay of the game, the Royals posted a total of 150 runs for the loss of three wickets in 11 overs.

Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered an unbeaten knock of 77 runs off just 32 deliveries, laced with 10 boundaries and four maximums.

Reflecting on his knock, the left-handed batsman said that he decided to take on Deepak Chahar as the powerplay of only three overs was allowed in the match of 11 overs.

“I had something in my mind because it was only a three-over power play, so I was thinking who I could take on. DC (Deepak Chahar) bhai was bowling, so I thought I could take him on. Then Bumrah bhai was going to bowl, so I was thinking Vaibhav can take him and then I can take on someone else,” he said.

He also spoke about the nature of modern-day cricket and said that he keeps trying to develop different shots according to the pitch conditions.

“It is not easy playing all formats. Trying my best every single time. Making sure I develop different shots and understand what to play on which wicket. It helps when I prepare well,” said Jaiswal.

Along with him, fellow opening batsman, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, scored 39 runs off just 14 deliveries, including a boundary and five maximums. Speaking about him, Jaiswal said that he keeps passing positive messages to the youngster to help him play freely.

“The way he has been playing is tremendous. I also get motivated looking at him. We discuss how we can go about things, and I keep giving him positive messages to play freely. He is amazing, understands the game well, and is capable of doing things on his own, said the 24-year-old cricketer.

Following the win, the Riyan Parag-led Royals are enjoying the top spot with three wins in as many matches. They have a net run rate (NRR) of +2.403 and six points.

On the other hand, the “Paltan” has now suffered two defeats in three matches of the ongoing league. They have slipped to the seventh position with a net run rate (NRR) of -0.715 and two points.
