Iran US ‘war’ news live updates: Explosion in Jerusalem after Iran missile alert, air strikes on Tehran’s Mehrabad airport

US Iran ‘war’ news live updates: The crisis is escalating globally, with the US increasing military action and arms support to Israel, Russia reportedly assisting Iran with intelligence, and new security threats emerging from assassination plots and regional drone and missile attacks.

US Iran ‘war’ news live updates: The conflict in the Middle East continued to escalate on Saturday, with Israel launching a new wave of airstrikes on Tehran, Iran retaliating with attacks across the region, and new geopolitical developments involving the United States, Russia and several regional countries. Israel launches new wave of attacks on Tehran

Israel announced it had launched “wide-scale attacks” targeting government facilities in Tehran early Saturday, according to AFP. Iran’s state broadcaster reported explosions in the western part of the capital after the attacks, although details of damage or casualties were not immediately available.

The Israeli strikes come amid an intensified crackdown against Iran-linked targets across the region. Israeli forces also carried out airstrikes in Lebanon, including in Beirut’s southern suburbs and the eastern city of Baalbek, where the Iran-backed Hezbollah group has a strong influence.

Separately, Lebanon’s health ministry said three people were killed and 16 others were wounded in Israeli strikes near a mountainous town in eastern Lebanon, according to the AP.

Regional attacks and growing security threats

Iran and its allies have responded with attacks across the region. Saudi Arabia said it intercepted a ballistic missile fired toward Prince Sultan Air Base near Riyadh, which hosts US military personnel.

Saudi officials also said they destroyed four drones headed toward the Shaybah oil field in the kingdom’s Empty Quarter desert, according to the AP.

In Iraq, at least two drones attacked energy infrastructure and facilities used by US contractors in Basra province, causing fires at sites linked to US energy services firms.

There has already been a lot of loss of life in the violence. Officials say more than 1,230 people have been killed in Iran, more than 200 in Lebanon and about a dozen in Israel, while six US soldiers have also been killed.

America increased military and diplomatic pressure

The United States has continued to increase its military involvement in the conflict. US Central Command said more than 3,000 Iranian targets had been struck in the past week, including Revolutionary Guard headquarters, missile sites and naval assets, AFP reported.

US forces also attacked and set fire to an Iranian drone carrier, although Iran has not acknowledged the attack.

Washington has also taken steps towards strengthening Israel’s military capabilities. According to the AP, the US State Department, citing emergency need and bypassing the normal congressional review process, approved a $151 million arms sale to Israel, including 12,000 one-thousand-pound bombs.

President Donald Trump has also refused to negotiate with Tehran, insisting that the conflict will only end with Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”

Global tensions are rising as Russia and others come under pressure

The conflict has also attracted other global players. US intelligence suggests Russia has provided Iran with information that could help it target US warships and aircraft in the region, the AP reported, citing officials familiar with the intelligence.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian and expressed support for an immediate ceasefire and a diplomatic solution, according to the Kremlin cited by AFP.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of the dangers of an escalating war “beyond anyone’s control” and urged serious diplomatic talks to prevent widespread regional devastation.

Iran-related murder conspiracy exposed in America

In a separate development, a Pakistani man with alleged links to Iran was convicted in the United States for plotting to assassinate President Donald Trump and other US leaders, according to a PTI report.

Asif Raza Merchant, 48, was found guilty by a federal jury in Brooklyn of murder-for-hire and attempted terrorism across national borders. US prosecutors said he was sent by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to recruit hitmen and target US political figures including Trump, former President Joe Biden and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.
