On Day 3 of the fifth Test match against England, Team India posted a total of 189 runs for the loss of three wickets at the stroke of lunch.
The visitors have secured a lead of 166 runs in the ongoing match at The Oval.
Resuming batting for India on Day 3, Akash Deep, who came in as a night watchman, completed his maiden half-century against the `Three Lions`. Facing 94 balls, the right-hander accumulated 66 runs, which was laced with 12 boundaries.
Shouldering him was Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is still unbeaten at the crease. So far, he has faced 106 balls and has garnered 85 runs, including 10 boundaries and two maximums.
After Akash`s departure, skipper Shubman Gill has entered the ground. He has scored 11 runs off eight balls, including two boundaries.
For England, Gus Atkinson, Josh Tongue, and Jamie Overton have claimed one wicket each. Jacob Bethell has bowled just one over and conceded six runs, without claiming any wickets.
Bowling 14 overs, Atkinson has leaked 65 runs. Tongue has conceded 64 runs after bowling 16 overs. On the other hand, Overtone was smashed for 47 runs in 13 overs.
Earlier, in England`s first innings, Crawley (64 in 57 balls, with 14 fours) and Ben Duckett (43 in 38 balls, with five fours and two sixes) put on a 92-run stand. After both openers were dismissed at the score of 129 runs, there was a batting collapse triggered by Krishna (4/62) and Siraj (4/83). Harry Brook (53 in 64 balls, with five fours and a six) did score a half-century, but could not prevent England from getting dismissed for just 247 runs, giving England a slender 23-run lead.
The ongoing match is crucial from India`s perspective as they will look to secure a win in order to draw the series. Currently, England is leading the five-match Test series by 2-1.
It will be interesting to see if Shubman Gill manages to draw the series against England in his debut series as captain. The series results will also be important for Gautam Gambhir as head coach.
