Ever since Vijay confirmed that ‘Jana Nayagan’ would be his final film before stepping into public life excitement across Tamil Nadu has intensified and this has also come along with several tensions regarding it’s release. The film was initially planned as a Sankranti release. But the censor certificate did not arrive on time. This caused the team to halt the release at the last minute. The delay surprised fans because the film had completed its shoot and post-production much earlier.
Court review
After the Sankranti plan collapsed the team considered a February release. That window also closed when a group approached the court alleging that the film contained “heavy political and personal criticism.” The court then appointed a review committee to examine these objections. The report has not yet been submitted. With no update emerging from the committee it became clear that the film would not release this month either.
Election code of conduct could complicate things further
Tamil Nadu heads toward its next election cycle in April. With the Election Code of Conduct approaching the climate could create additional challenges for the film’s timing. Taking these factors into account, several reports from sites such as NT News, Eenadu suggest that the producers have now postponed the release to June. Since June 22 marks Vijay’s birthday, the team reportedly feels that releasing the film on June 18 would be ideal. However an official announcement is still awaited, and sources insist that internal discussions are ongoing. This timing is seen as commercially strong due to festive weekends and fan celebrations.Earlier updates surfaced through the YouTube channel Valai Pechu, which reported that the film is not releasing anytime soon. Instead, the channel claimed that the plan—if things progress smoothly—is to release the H. Vinoth directorial in June 2026, targeting Thursday, June 18, 2026. According to that update, the date has two strategic advantages: it falls just before Vijay’s 52nd birthday celebrations and aligns with the Muharram long weekend.‘Jana Nayagan’ features Mamitha Baiju in a key role, while Pooja Hegde plays the female lead. Bobby Deol appears as the antagonist
