Jennie’s ‘Seoul City’ inspired by BTS V? BLACKPINK star sparks dating rumors

Jennie Kim of BLACKPINK is once again back in the spotlight, not only for her music but also for the swirling rumors surrounding her personal life. Her latest album, ‘Ruby,’ released on 7 March 2025, has sparked intense speculation among fans, particularly about one track titled ‘Seoul City.’. This sultry song has led many to believe it might be inspired by BTS member V, also known as Kim Taehyung. The connection between the two K-pop idols has been a topic of fascination since dating rumors first surfaced in 2022.

The lyrics and speculations
The lyrics of ‘Seoul City’ have become the focal point of fan theories. Lines such as “Give me a hug, I need your love, touch my thigh / Tell me what puts you in that mind / Frame it up, draw me in, do me right / Don’t you dare leave my sight” have been scrutinized for potential hidden meanings. Another intriguing verse reads, “Only listen to my general, oh-oh / He says my attitude is out of control / Tell me what to do, Mr. General.” Fans have linked this reference to V’s current military service in South Korea, where he holds the rank of sergeant, although his exact position is not known, and serves as part of the Special Duty Team at the ARMY general school administration.

Social media platforms have been flooded with videos pairing clips of V with ‘Seoul City,’ further fueling the rumors. However, Jennie has not publicly addressed these speculations, leaving fans to continue theorizing about whether the song is indeed inspired by V.
A brief timeline of dating rumors
As per J-14, the relationship rumors between Jennie and V first emerged in May 2022 when photos of them allegedly driving through Jeju Island surfaced online. While many fans debated the authenticity of these images, some claiming they were Photoshopped, Jennie’s agency, YG Entertainment, issued a vague statement saying, “We cannot confirm anything about our artists’ personal lives. We ask for your understanding.”
In December 2021, V briefly followed Jennie on Instagram, a move that sent fans into a frenzy before quickly unfollowing her. This was particularly noteworthy as V only follows seven accounts: his BTS bandmates and their official page. Later, in May 2023, the pair was reportedly spotted holding hands while strolling through Paris. French paparazzi captured moments that reignited relationship rumors and broke the internet. However, by December 2023, a JTBC report suggested that they had parted ways.

V’s military service and anticipated return
Kim Taehyung began his mandatory military service on 11 December 2023 and is expected to be discharged on 10 June 2025. His time in the military has been closely followed by fans eager for updates on his journey and awaiting his return to music. The discharge date has sparked excitement among BTS ARMY members who are looking forward to seeing him rejoin group activities and pursue new projects.
While fans continue to analyse every detail, from song lyrics to social media interactions, the truth behind Jennie and V’s relationship remains elusive. Both stars have maintained their privacy amidst speculation.
