The Karnataka government has presented a new set of supplementary budget estimates totaling ₹6,279.87 crore during the ongoing Legislative Assembly session in Belagavi, indicating additional spending in governance, welfare, infrastructure and administrative sectors.
The second tranche of supplementary estimates was presented by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil on behalf of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who explained how the additional funds will be distributed among the departments.
A portion of the supplementary budget is earmarked for administrative needs, including official travel and logistics. The estimates also include allocations to cover the helicopter travel expenses of the Chief Minister and the Governor as well as funds for the purchase of new official vehicles.
According to the statement placed before the House, provision has been made to acquire 22 vehicles for the Lokayukta institution and 35 vehicles for senior government officials along with funds to meet aviation-related travel costs for constitutional officers.
Additional estimates also reflect targeted spending on welfare and regional development. Funds have been set aside for development work in Naxal-affected areas, while allocations have been made to clear pending wages of jail inmates engaged in labor in state-run correctional facilities.

Agriculture and industry figure prominently in the supplementary budget. The government has earmarked funds to support sugarcane farmers, providing financial assistance to enable additional payment of Rs. 50 per quintal.
Industrial development has been addressed through allocations under the Industrial Incentive Subsidy Scheme, while grants have also been proposed for private temples and monasteries.
Many cultural and official events are scheduled to receive funding through supplementary estimates. These include allocation for an international film festival, additional funding for Mysore Dasara and financial assistance for Tumakuru Dasara celebrations.
The government has also set aside funds for official travel related to international and parliamentary activities, including participation in the World Economic Forum summit in Davos in 2026 and attendance at Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conferences in India and abroad.
Minister HK Patil informed the House that the government had earlier used funds from various state-run corporations to conduct socio-economic surveys. Through supplementary estimates a total of Rs. Now Rs 348.36 crore has been reimbursed to these corporations by restoring their financial allocations.
Meanwhile, the Belagavi assembly session is likely to last longer than originally planned. Although the session was scheduled to end on Friday, government sources indicated that the proceedings could be extended by a day, with opposition leaders already aware of the possibility.
What does this supplementary budget mean for the citizens of Karnataka?
While supplementary budgets often seem technical, many of the allocations directly impact everyday life across Karnataka.
For farmers: The allocation to sugarcane growers enables the state to support additional Rs. The payment of Rs 50 per quintal provides short-term financial relief to farmers facing rising input costs.
For flood affected residents: The larger provision for revised flood relief assistance signals faster and more comprehensive compensation to families affected by the recent floods, especially in vulnerable districts.
For workers and prisoners: The funds earmarked to pay pending salaries of prison inmates ensure timely payment for labor already done while addressing long-standing administrative delays.
For residents of Naxal affected areas: Targeted funding for development work aims to improve infrastructure and services in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, thereby enhancing livelihoods and access to public facilities.
For the wider public: Positioned to strengthen expenditure, monitoring and administrative functioning on health, governance and regulatory bodies, including the Lokayukta. Meanwhile, investment in cultural events like Dussehra and international forums like Davos aims to boost tourism, global visibility and economic engagement. Reimbursement of Rs. Rs 348.36 crore given to state corporations restores funds that were earlier diverted for socio-economic surveys, thereby helping to stabilize the financial health of these public bodies.
