Filmmaker-actor Sundar C is debuting in politics as a candidate for the Pudiya Neethi Katchi (PNK) in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections. His wife, actor Khushbu Sundar, a political veteran and currently with the BJP, says his entry has ‘rattled’ a ‘learned politician’ in the state. She also stated that his political entry has sparked fear among supporters of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. Khushbu Sundar on husband’s political entry
On Friday, Khushbu took to her X (formerly Twitter) and reacted to the buzz around Sundar contesting from Madurai for PNK. She wrote, “I understand the fear #SundarC has evoked in the so called supporters of the ruling party. I like it. Blessings of #MeenakshiAmman is with us.”
Posting his picture on Instagram, she penned a longer note: “A “learned” politician seems rattled by the entry of Mr. #SundarC into politics and that itself speaks volumes. Sundar C, contesting from Madurai Central as the #Puthiyanidhikatchi candidate under the #2leaves symbol of @aiadmk.official , has clearly struck a chord.”
She also addressed his ‘outsider’ status, writing, “They call him an outsider. But aren’t we all, at some point, strangers to the very places we come to call home? It is not birth, but belonging that defines us. It is not origin, but commitment that matters.” She further wrote, “Sundar C is no outsider. He is a son of Tamil Nadu, someone who has lived, worked, and connected deeply with its people. He breathes Tamil, stands for its culture, and believes in its future.”
Khushbu ended her note with, “Perhaps the real question is, can politics and politicians rise above narrow labels and divisions? They say Madurai is all about warmth, hospitality, love and acceptance. Let the people of Madurai choose the one who genuinely wishes to serve and be one among them. #SundarC4Madurai.”
Sundar C to contest in TN elections
Last week, Sundar was announced as PNK’s candidate for Madurai in the TN elections, scheduled for April 23. The party is a part of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led (AIADMK) National Democratic Alliance (NDA) alliance. He seemed confident of his win while talking to the press, stating that the competition in Madurai Central will be between DMK and AIADMK.
When asked about Vijay also debuting in politics via his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, he refused to criticise the star or his party. He remarked that Vijay calls Khushbu his ‘akka’ (elder sister) and she calls him her ‘thambi’ (younger brother). Sundar has One 2 One lined up as an actor and Mookuthi Amman 2 and Purushan as a director.
