Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar feels that KL Rahul will have no issues scoring runs in Australia during the upcoming series against Australia. Rahul’s form has been criticised in recent times as he struggled for runs during the recent series against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home.
Despite this, Rahul is in line to open for India during the Perth Test with Rohit Sharma being absent for the match. The 32-year-old has opened for India in the past and has scored more than 2500 runs from the spot. In his last outing as an opener, Rahul went on to score a hundred in Centurion against South Africa in 2023. This innings was witnessed first-hand by Gavaskar, who feels that Rahul can do the same in Australia.
Gavaskar feels that the 32-year-old will need some luck at the start, and he can help the team off to a solid opening.
“KL Rahul got one of the finest centuries that I have witnessed first-hand in South Africa last year opening the batting, so doing so here again won’t be an issue for him.
“Like all batters he will need some luck at the start and if he gets that he can get the team off to a solid opening,” Gavaskar told PTI in an exclusive interview ahead of the series opener.

India has moved on from New Zealand loss
India come into the series after being blanked 0-3 at home by New Zealand and Gavaskar feels that the team has moved on from the loss and is solely focused on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The legendary batter also feels the experienced players in the team will help the youngsters also to forget about the past.
“Just like a batter is trained to forget the previous delivery and focus on the next one, so do good teams forget what’s happened in the previous Test match and concentrate on the next one.”
“With the experience in this team, I am sure they will guide the youngsters to look at the next one and not think about the previous one,” said Gavaskar.
India and Australia will start the series with the Perth Test, which will begin on November 22.
